Buffalo Defense Shines in 26-10 Upset Victory at No. 19/20 Colorado State-Pueblo

The West Texas A&M Buffalo football defense and special teams came to play on Saturday evening as the Buffs posted a 26-10 victory at No. 19/20 Colorado State-Pueblo evening their record at 1-1 on the year.

The Buffs blocked two kicks and tallied three interceptions which led to 13 points and had a pick-six en route to the upset win as WT ended a 28-game home winning streak by the ThunderWolves (0-2).  It was the 100th game in CSUP history since restarting the football program in 2008.  The first win in the 28-game winning streak at home for CSUP came against New Mexico Highlands on Oct. 30, 2010.  The win by the Buffs also gave CSUP its third-straight loss for the first time since 2009...Complete Release
 


No. 8 Lions surge to 40-28 win at Delta State

The No. 8 Texas A&M University-Commerce Lions scored 23 consecutive points to push to a 40-28 win over Delta State University at Parker Field on Saturday night.

With the key win, the Lions move to 2-0 on the season, while dropping the Statesmen to 1-1...Complete Release
 

Gridiron Hounds Close Spectacular Grand Opening with 37-16 win Over Mustangs

Shortly before Saturday's Grand Opening, the ribbon on Al Whitehead Field at Greyhound Stadium was cut, many generous donors were recognized, and the National Anthem was finished with a flyover from Cannon Air Force base. More than 4,000 fans packed the stadium to see the Eastern New Mexico football team pound out 466 rushing yards en-route to a 37-16 win over Western New Mexico in both team’s Lone Star Conference opener.

From the moment the first fans arrived, until quarterback Wyatt Strand kneeled down to run out the clock, ENMU fans celebrated the return to campus of the football team.

The Greyhounds offensive was highlighted by Kamal Cass and Tayshaun Gary.  Cass rushed for a career-best 232 yards with two scores, while Gary sprinted for 128 yards, which included a 60-yard run late in the game...Complete Release
 

Rams Outlast Wildcats in 3OT Win

The Angelo State football team and Northern Michigan tried to replicate their first meeting from 1987 by going into overtime but the Rams changed the outcome with Josh Steven's one-yard touchdown run to win 47-41 in triple overtime.

The Rams (1-1) had a 27-24 lead with three seconds remaining until Northern Michigan's Tyler Blackburn hit a 49-yard field goal as time expired to tie the game. The Wildcats (1-1) were down 17-3 at half but had scored 21 unanswered points until Trey Green scored with 10:37 in the fourth quarter to regain the lead for Angelo State.

The teams traded touchdowns in the first two overtimes and NMU was looking for another lead in the third. On third down at the 23-yard line, NMU's Shaye Brown threw a ball to the end zone but Fred Lawrence went for the ball to intercept the pass to give the Rams an opportunity to win...Complete Release
 

Flashback! Hogs Go for 68 for First Time Since 1977, Start Season 2-0

There's no better way to head into Lone Star Conference play than the showing the Javelinas gave the 10,200 fans at Javelina Stadium. Texas A&M-Kingsville jumped out to a 40-0 lead after the opening 15 minutes and began the second half with the same offensive explosion, adding Myles Carr's fourth touchdown of the first half and second to Anthony Autry. All in all, the Hogs improved to 2-0 for the first time since 2012 with a 68-7 victory over Simon Fraser (0-2) Saturday evening.

The 68 points were tied for the fifth most in single game history and are the most since 1977.

The opening quarter was full of firsts: Greg Pitre's first rushing touchdown since 2014, Nick Pelrean's first career score on the ground and Anthony Autry's two TDs. Carr's four touchdowns extend his streak to 14 consecutive throwing TDs without a touchdown...Complete Release
 

Falcons Do It All in 49-34 Win over Arizona Christian

UT Permian Basin seemed to find every possible way to score Saturday night in a come-from-behind, seven touchdown night as the Falcons downed Arizona Christian 49-34 at Ratliff Stadium in Odessa.

The visiting Firestorm seemed to take control of the momentum early in the contest when it held the Falcons scoreless as the team's first drive stalled out at the one-yard line. Arizona Christian then went the length of the field, traversing all 99 yards over 16 plays for a 6-0 lead.

UTPB wouldn't get on the scoreboard until under three minutes remained in the second quarter, but took the lead when Cris Hoad stripped the ball, picked it up and ran it home for a 32-yard defensive touchdown for a 7-6 lead...Complete Release

Tarleton falls to Southwest Baptist on last second field goal

A last-second field goal by Southwest Baptist spoiled Tarleton's bid for a win in its home opener and dropped the Texans to 0-2 on the season at Memorial Stadium on Saturday.

After Zed Woerner drove the Texan offense 55 yards down the field to tie the game at 28 on a Bubba Tandy 12-yard touchdown reception with 2:16 left in the fourth quarter, Southwest Baptist would kick a 23-yard field goal with nine seconds remaining to lift the Bearcats to a 31-28 win.

The Texans put up a touchdown in every quarter and went toe-to-toe with SBU (2-0) throughout the game. Tarleton struck first with Joseph Sadler escaping several Bearcat defenders on a short pass from Woerner that resulted in a 22-yard catch-and-run touchdown on the game's opening drive. Sadler posted a team-high 106 yards rushing and 33 yards receiving on the game...Complete Release
