No. 6 A&M-Commerce wins fifth straight Chennault Cup with thrilling 38-36 win over A&M-Kingsville
The No. 6 Texas A&M-Commerce football team held on through a wild finish to earn a 38-36 win over Texas A&M-Kingsville at Memorial Stadium on Saturday night. Hatari Byrd blocked a field goal attempt as time expired to give the Lions their fifth straight win in the Chennault Cup series.
With the win, the Lions are now 4-0 on the season with a 2-0 Lone Star Conference record, while A&M-Kingsville is 2-2 overall and 0-2 in the league.

West Texas A&M pulls away from Tarleton State in 2016 home-opener, 37-25
A 40-yard scamper from West Texas A&M senior Devon Paye sealed a 37-25 win over visiting Tarleton State Saturday evening in the 2016 home opener for the Buffs at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium. With the win, WT improved to 3-1 on the year and 2-0 in Lone Star Conference play, while Tarleton State fell to 1-3 and 1-1 in league play.
In the decisive drive with WT clinging to a 31-25 lead, Ja'Quarius Daniels pulled in a great 25-yard catch to prolong the drive. Later, Paye caught a 13-yard pass on a 3rd and two for a first down at the TSU 40. He then ran for 40-yard score and 37-25 lead with 1:21 left.
For the game, WT amassed 492 yards of offense with 356 through the air and 136 rushing on 32 carries. Both teams tallied 21 first downs in the game, while WT went a season-best 11 of 19 on third down and 1 of 4 on fourth. TSU had just 60 yards rushing, but threw for 368 and totaled 428 for the game. Opportunistic Greyhounds sprint past Angelo State, 25-14
After a 49-yard missed field-goal attempt by Angelo State, Kamal Cass capped an 11-play drive to give the Eastern New Mexico football team (2-2; LSC 2-1) the lead for good, in Saturday's game at LeGrand Stadium. The Hounds would also score touchdowns after a pair of interceptions on the way to a 25-point halftime lead. The opportunistic Greyhounds held on for a 25-14 win over the Rams (1-3; LSC 0-2) in Lone Star Conference.
The win was Eastern's second in the last three trips to San Angelo, Texas, and improved ENMU to 16-24-1 overall against the Rams. Mustangs light up the scoreboard in victory over UTPB
The offense was beginning to show signs of clicking last week and it showed in full force Saturday with the Western New Mexico football team piling up 68 points and 535 yards in a dominating 68-17 win over UT Permian Basin in Lone Star Conference action.
In addition to the offense chewing up the yards and points, the Mustangs (2-2, 2-1 LSC) had zero turnovers for the second straight week, while forcing two. WNMU went 9-16 on third down and capitalized once they reached the red zone going a perfect 5-5.
Senior quarterback Javia Hall had yet another strong performance going 21-35 for 284 yards and four scores. Senior Xavier Ayers is definitely in mid-season form as he hauled in seven catches for 139 yards and three touchdowns. MSU, OPSU postponed to 5 p.m. Sunday
No. 11 Midwestern State postponed its home opening Lone Star Conference game against Oklahoma Panhandle State due to lightning and heavy rain Saturday night at Memorial Stadium.
The Mustangs and Aggies will re-start the game at 5 p.m. Sunday night. Admission is free.
The game will be resumed at the 9:22 mark of the first quarter with the Mustangs leading 14-7. MSU will have the ball at its own 28-yard line.
Midwestern State sophomore Vincent Johnson scored two touchdowns in the opening two minutes of the game. Johnson scored his first touchdown after Robert Grays returned the opening kickoff 72 yards, then ran for his eighth TD of the season following an interception by Sir'Vell Ford.
Oklahoma Panhandle State rallied for a nine-play, 79-yard culminating in a 4-yard touchdown strike from Shane Truelove to Andrew Hernandez.
