LSC Roundup 2-21

Conference's 'two best' in MSU and Tarleton will square off tonight - Times Record News, Nick Gholson
Part of Kyle Isaacs' job description at Texas A&M-Kingsville is to watch a lot of film and break down opposing teams in the Lone Star Conference. So the Kingsville assistant coach has seen a whole lot of Tarleton State and Midwestern State this season.

"It is clear cut to me that Tarleton and Midwestern are the two best teams in the conference," Isaacs said.

Notice he said "conference" and not "division." Isaacs believes the best two teams in the LSC play in the South Division. He ranks North leader Central Oklahoma third behind them.

The Texans and Mustangs are currently 1-2 in the South as the final week of the regular season opens tonight with them squaring off against each other at 8 o'clock. in D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

Friendly competition - Dave Henry, Amarillo Globe News
The first time Tanner Marsh and Dustin Vaughan competed against each other - sort of - was in high school.

Actually, their teams went at it, but bragging rights would be at stake in the near future.

Marsh's Lewisville Hebron blanked Vaughan's Corpus Christi Calallen, 28-0, to win the 2005 Class 4A Division II state championship.

Neither Marsh, then a sophomore, nor Vaughan, then a freshman, played.

"I knew who he was, though," said Vaughan. "When we got here, we became friends, even though his team slaughtered us. It is still a joke between us."
