LSC Scoop Power Poll and Week Ten Superlatives

1. ACU (1) - Pretty tough game against Rams could be just what ACU needed to prepare for Buffs.
2. TAMK (2) - Offense unloaded in first half, bench emptied in second.
3. WTAM (3) - Dominated young Cards in prep for Wildcats.
4. MSU (4) - Broke long skid versus Texans.
5. ASU (6) - Just couldn't get over hump against ranked teams.
6. ECU (7) - Dominated Riverhawks in LSC North showdown.
7. NSU (5) - Did not fare well in spotlight.
8. ENMU (10) - That's the offense we've been expecting to see.
9. SOSU (8) - Disappointing season continues.
10. UIW (9) - Cardinals have roughest part of schedule behind them, can they rebound in final two weeks?

Best Overall Team Performance - East Central
The Tigers continue their late season surge, with a convincing 48-21 win over the Riverhawks. ECU jumped out to a 21-0 lead early in the second quarter, and never let Northeastern State back with 12. Offensively, ECU piled up 445 yards, with Tyler Vanderzee throwing for 250 yards and 2 TDs, as well as catching a 38 yard TD pass of his own. Charles Opeseyitan had 97 yards rushing. The defense was not to be outdone, holding NSU to 218 yards, and scoring 2 TDs on a 74 interception return by Dontae Smith and a 7 yard fumble return by Armonty Bryant.


Best Team Offensive Performance - Texas A&M-Kingsville
The Javelinas piled up season highs in yards (546) and points (56) despite resting their starters and attempting just four passes in the second half. Nate Poppell completed 12-17 passes for 183 yards, and hit Ryan Lincoln on a 73 yard TD pass. Jonathan Woodson rushed for 117 yards and 3 TDs, and had 187 all purpose yards.


Best Team Defensive Performance - West Texas A&M
The Buffalo defense limited Incarnate Word to just 259 yards offensively, including just 126 passing yards. The first half was especially tough for the Cardinals, with WT limiting them to just one possession of more than three plays, two total first downs, 63 yards of offense, and a Maurice Caldwell interception return for a touchdown.


Best Offensive Performance - Mitchell Gale, Abilene Christian
Gale completed 27-41 passes for 377 yards and 4 TDs with 0 interceptions in Saturday's 33-20 win over Angelo State. He was also the team's leading rusher, picking up 31 yards on 8 carries. For the season, Gale now has thrown for 2,813 yards with 31 TDs and just 1 interception.


Best Defensive Performance - Neiko Conway, Midwestern State
Conway had a solid game with six tackles and a pass break up against Tarleton State, but also had two game changers. First, he blocked a TSU field goal attempt, that would have give the Texans a 16-14 lead with under a minute to play in the first half. But his biggest play came late in the third quarter. With the Mustangs clinging to a one point lead, Conway intercepted a Nick Stephens pass at the Mustang goal line, and returned it 99 yards to the Texan one yard line. MSU would score a TD two plays later, going up 28-13, instead of trailing 27-21.


Best Special Teams Performance - Tommy Hampton, West Texas A&M
Hampton returned just two kicks, but mad the most of them. After Incarnate Word got on the scoreboard with a field goal late in the third quarter, Hampton took the ensuing kickoff 89 yards for a Buffalo TD. Hampton returned his next kick 47 yards, setting the Buffaloes up on the Cardinal 43 yard line.
