Fifth-ranked Midwestern State is moving on the NCAA Division II Elite Eight for a third consecutive year after a 77-61 win over #15 Arkansas Tech on Tuesday evening in the NCAA Division II South Central Regional finals.
The Mustangs improved to 29-3 overall and earned a spot in the Elite Eight starting March 21st in Highland Heights, Ky. at the Bank of Kentucky Center. MSU faces West regional winner Western Washington at 2:30 p.m.(more)

Jones added a fourth individual national championship to his personal trophy case in the men’s shot put, while Ouedraogo won the women's triple jump. Woodson topped the field in the 200-meter dash.
The leader from the outset, Jones threw 17.72 meters (58 feet, 1.75 inches) on his first attempt of the competition before a final prelim throw of 17.98 meters (59-0.00). That mark stood throughout the rest of the competition and Jones had his title, posting a mark of 18.02 meters (59-1.50) on the final throw of the competition.
On her first attempt of the competition, Ouedraogo posted a mark of 12.84 meters (42-1.50) and that put her in the lead for good. That was the only jump she made that counted as she fouled on each of her last five attempts of the competition.
Woodson, who entered the meet as the fifth seed, quickly made his intentions known by posting the fastest time in the preliminary heats. In the finals, he crossed the finish line in 21.37 to earn the first national title for the Javelinas since 2005. His effort helped the men’s squad earn the most points (19) in school history at the championship event.
On the men’s side, Grand Canyon won its first NCAA Division II national championship with 54 points, while Adams State finished second with 47 points. TAMUK ended the meet in 14th place, while ACU was 20th (12 points) and West Texas A&M 40th (1 point).
Grand Valley State rolled to the women’s team title with 94 points with Adams State finishing a distant second with 51 points. ACU finished 14th (12 points) and Angelo State was 22nd (6 points).
After two weeks of Lone Star Conference play, two teams - Angelo State and
Tarleton State - remain undefeated in league play at 6-0. LSC play continues
along with some mid-week non-conference games this week.
LSC teams are playing a single round-robin schedule with a three-game series against every other team. Each series consists of a doubleheader one day and single 7-inning game the other day.
The overall LSC Champion will be the team(s) with the best winning percentage in regular-season conference games, while the winner of the postseason championship will be recognized as LSC Tournament Champion and receive the league’s automatic qualification into the NCAA postseason. The single-elimination championship will be played April 27-28 in Denton, Texas.
LSC softball teams are 140-93 overall this season. In the NCAA South Central Region, the LSC is currently 81-48 overall including 42-20 combined versus Heartland Conference teams, 17-9 opposed to the Great American Conference, 19-13 against the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) and 3-6 versus independent teams.

Peters helped lead the No. 3 Rambelles to their second consecutive conference sweep over the Zias last weekend. The sophomore hit .700, going 7-of-10 at the dish. Peters slugged 2.000 after launching four home runs and a double in the three game set. The San Antonio native scored eight runs and drove in 11 RBIs to help improve ASU to a 6-0 mark in league play.

LeComte became the all-time leader in hits at West Texas A&M this past weekend as the #14 Lady Buffs swept a three game series from rival Midwestern State in Canyon, Texas. LeComte put herself into first place in the WT record book with her 255th career hit, a two run blast to left field in game three. The senior center fielder ended the game in style on a two run bomb to right center field, the deepest part of the ballpark, to give WT the 9-7 win and the weekend series sweep. For the week, she hit .636 (7-11) with three homers, while scoring six runs along with six RBIs.

Samantha Swanda, Tarleton State University, SR, Pitcher, Apache, Okla., Apache HS
Swanda continued her dominance in conference play by pitching two complete game shutouts in Tarleton’s three-game sweep of Texas A&M-Kingsville last weekend. The senior starter pitched games one and three of the series allowing just seven hits and five walks while striking out 11. Swanda held the Javelina batters to just a .156 team batting average in those 14 innings. These wins pushed Swanda’s overall conference record to 4-0 with a 0.50 ERA.
