LSC Football Recap - Week 8



The Pony Express chewed up 389 rushing yards to lift 12th-ranked Midwestern State to a 35-31 come-from-behind win over Abilene Christian Saturday afternoon at Shotwell Stadium.
 
But MSU junior running back Keidrick Jackson rushed for a career-high 197 yards on 23 carries and a touchdown while senior quarterback Brandon Kelsey ran for 141 yards and four touchdowns and sophomore running back Chauncey Harris accounted for 117 yards of total offense out of the backfield to key the victory.

The Mustangs sixth straight win improved them to 6-1 on the season and to 5-1 in the Lone Star Conference. MSU returns to Memorial Stadium Saturday against Eastern New Mexico. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.    (Click here for complete release)

Angelo State 17, Texas A&M Commerce 16
Down 13-0 at half, the Angelo State Rams (4-4, 3-2) rallied to defeat the Texas A&M-Commerce Lions (1-6, 1-4) 17-16 in a Lone Star Conference game.

Jarred Martin’s 27-yard field goal with 6:55 left in the game proved to be the winning margin for the Rams.

Angelo State senior running back Donavan Roberts registered his first 100-yard rushing game of his ASU career and the Rams’ first 100-yard rushing game of the season with 104 yards on 14 carries.
Ram quarterback Blake Hamblin completed 16 of 36 passes for 122 yards a score and no interceptions and Dakarai Pecikonis had a touchdown catch and two key punt returns that sparked scoring drives.  (Click here for complete release)

Texas A&M-Kingsville 35, Tarleton State 23
Jonathan Woodson showed off his big play ability with a 93-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and a 26-yard touchdown run and Anthony Johnson ran for over 100 yards for the second-straight game in a row as Texas A&M-Kingsville spoiled Tarleton State’s Homecoming 35-23 at Memorial Stadium Saturday night.

Senior quarterbacks Nate Poppell and Bryan Ehrlich combined for three touchdown passes on 15-of-27 passing for 182 yards as the Javelinas moved to 4-4 on the season and 3-3 in Lone Star Conference play. Tarleton drops to 3-4 on the year and is 3-3 in the LSC.

After Vaughn Smith scored on a 6-yard run to open the scoring, Woodson streaked down the right sideline for a 28-yard touchdown run with 14 seconds left in the first quarter. It was his first score since the opening game, the first of the season by the Javelinas in the opening quarter and pushed him over 5,000 all-purpose yards in his career.
