They are the Tom Brady and Peyton Manning of the Lone Star Conference.

No. 3 ACU, No. 4 West Texas A&M meet Saturday
Joey Richards

Regular-season games don't come much bigger than this. Abilene Christian University, ranked No. 3 in the nation in Division II football, takes on No. 4-ranked West Texas A&M University in a battle of unbeatens at 6 p.m. Saturday in Canyon.

Not only is it a battle between two top-ranked teams, but the game will likely decide the Lone Star Conference title -- certainly the LSC South Division.

Mustangs stumbling again after solid start

George Vondracek

Midwestern State finds itself in this position for the fourth straight season: A promising start thwarted by successive losses to nationally ranked West Texas A&M and Tarleton State.

The Mustangs, who travel to Texas A&M-Kingsville for Saturday's Lone Star Conference South Division matchup, haven't had their postseason or conference hopes totally quashed, but the task has grown tougher after falling out of the NCAA Division II Super Region Four rankings from No. 6. That makes winning their final four regular-season ballgames -- starting with the Javelinas and ending with third-ranked Abilene Christian -- essential.

A&M-Commerce facing tough quarterback

David Claybourn

Texas A&M University-Commerce could probably use another pass rusher like Harvey Martin when the Lions take on East Central University and its quarterback Marcus Johnson on Saturday.

The Harvey Martin Classic, named for the former East Texas State University (now A&M-Commerce) and Dallas Cowboys’ standout, is set for 2 p.m. Saturday at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas.
