WT, Wildcats post impressive LSC victories

West Texas A&M and Abilene Christian impressively moved closer to a highly anticipated showdown in Canyon.
The Buffs, ranked No. 5, helped trim the list of unbeaten teams in the Lone Star Conference in half by mashing No. 17 Midwestern State, 42-14. ACU, ranked one notch higher, clobbered East Central, 66-7.
After No. 1 Valdosta State's two-overtime loss, both teams could move up in this week's national poll.
The Buffs and Wildcats are the only two undefeated teams in the LSC after Texas A&M-Kingsville surprised No. 13 Tarleton State, 25-16.
WT (6-0) and ACU (5-0) square off Oct. 18.

STEPHENVILLE -- Last week at this time, Texas A&M-Kingsville's Javelinas were lamenting a 20-minute span in which they disappeared from radar against West Texas A&M.The should-have-beens and might-have-beens notwithstanding, the Javelinas, to a player, firmly believe they were a better team than they have been showcasing.
The Javelinas may have made their case Saturday night against 13th-ranked Tarleton State.

No. 13 Tarleton upset at home in South opener

Texas A&M-Kingsville dubbed themselves the ‘road warriors’ after playing four of their first five games away from home, three of which were Javelina wins.
They backed up that claim in their fifth away contest in six weeks with a 27-16 road upset of No. 13 Tarleton State in the Texans’ Lone Star Conference South opener at Memorial Stadium Saturday.
The Javelinas were clinging to a 20-16 lead and facing fourth-and-10 from their own 14 when punter Cody Smith scooped a poor snap off the turf on his own goal line and sprinted around the right side for 13 yards and a first down. Three plays later, Billy Martin broke through a hole in the middle of the line for a 55-yard touchdown gallop to strtetch the lead to 27-16 with 8:45 remaining.

UCO wins 43-40 thriller

The Central Oklahoma football team picked up its first road win of the season — its second consecutive win — on Saturday, beating Southwest Baptist 43-40.
“To play a game where we have several bad things happen, and to fight back, and fight back on the road like that, I think our team handled it extremely well,” UCO head coach Tracy Holland said.
The Bronchos had over 480 yards of total offense in the game as Brandon Noohi passed for 358 yards and three touchdowns, and Ryan Gallimore had nine receptions for 180 yards and two touchdowns, as UCO rallied in the second half, after trailing 17-13 at the break.
