ENMU coach: WT, ACU best teams in LSC

By Greg Jaklewicz

Eastern New Mexico coach Mark Ribaudo would be in the stands for Saturday's West Texas A&M-Abilene Christian game if his Greyhounds had an off week.

"This is the best ACU team I've ever seen in all my years in the LSC," said Ribaudo, who is in his fourth year as head coach at Eastern and 19th as a coach in the Lone Star Conference. "But I don't think Abilene is any more talented than WT.

"If they can stay healthy, either one of them can make a heckuva run in the playoffs."

Linebacker proves big hits can come in small packages

By George Vondracek

KINGSVILLE -- At first glance, Mike Martinez may not give the impression that he can be an imposing force on the football field. Standing all of 5-foot-8 and 225 pounds, the Texas A&M-Kingsville linebacker might be your average guy next door, a blue-collar proponent that earns his pay.

But as Javelinas coach Bo Atterberry says: "It's like I always tell them: Ballers come in all shapes and sizes."

Martinez has been one of the Javelinas' better "ballers" now four years running.
