LSC TRACK AND FIELD
The Lone Star Conference boasts three of the top four men’s teams in the national team computer rankings (April 3) conducted by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) with No. 2 Texas A&M-Kingsville, No. 3 Abilene Christian and No. 4 Angelo State. On the women’s side, the LSC is represented by No. 18 ACU and No. 25 ASU.
TRACK AND FIELD ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
CO-MEN’S TRACK
Dallas Gray, Angelo State University, FR, Rosenberg, Texas, Rosenberg HS
Gray, a freshman, was a member of three relay teams for the Rams at the Texas Relays. He was on the 4x100-meter, 4x400-meter and sprint medley relay. The 4x400-meter relay of Brendon West, Gray, Robbie Thayer and Isidro Garcia ran a NCAA Division II mark of 3:09.30. It is currently the fastest time in NCAA Division II and the Lone Star Conference. As a member of the 4x100-meter, Gray and teammates ran a 41.50 and clocked a 3:26.68 in the sprint medley relay.
Tim Price, Texas A&M University - Kingsville, SO, Corpus Christi, Texas, Carroll HS
Price had a strong showing at the Texas Relays last week. He took second place in the 100 meters in a wind-aided 10.34, the fastest time in the conference this year. In the prelims, he clocked a provisional qualifying time of 10.48. He also ran a leg on 4x100-meter relay that posted the top time in NCAA Division II this year, 40.26.
MEN’S FIELD
Baptiste Kerjean, Abilene Christian University, JR, St. Brieuc, France
Kerjean turned in the two longest throws of his career at the Texas Relays last Thursday afternoon to finish third in the men’s university-college hammer throw at Myers Stadium. His mark of 207 feet, 5 inches (63.22m), trailed only the 217-3 of Jeremy Postin of Florida and the 213-6 of Nick Miller, an Oklahoma State international student who competed unattached. Kerjean became only the third Wildcat to register more than 200 feet in the hammer throw. He now trails only Glenn Griffin (209-2) and Cliff Felkins (208-4) on the ACU all-time list of performers in the hammer throw. He also moved into fourth on the 2012 list of hammer throwers in NCAA Division II.
WOMEN’S TRACK
Theresa Sue, Angelo State University, JR, Ft. Worth, Texas, Saginaw HS
Sue set a new personal best in the 400-meter hurdles at the Texas Relays this past weekend. The junior ran a NCAA Division II provisional time of 1:01.37 to move to No. 6 in that nation. She is tops in the Lone Star Conference and the only student-athlete to hit a NCAA Division II provisional mark in the event. It is the second-straight week that Sue has set a personal best in the 400-meter hurdles.
WOMEN’S FIELD
Amanda Ouedraogo, Abilene Christian University, JR, Hauts de Seine, France, Descartes HS
Ouedraogo placed fifth at the Texas Relays among 16 competitors in the women’s university-college triple jump with her collegiate best (and wind-aided) 43-3.25 (13.19m). Her mark in the sixth round moved her into the lead in NCAA Division II on the 2012 outdoor performer list. Ouedraogo’s performance Friday included the first two 13-meter jumps of her Wildcat career. She leaped 13.01 meters (42-8.25 with 4.3 wind) in the third round of preliminary jumps to advance to the final, then after fouls in the fourth and fifth rounds she leaped 13.19 (43-3.25 with 2.8 wind). She is second on the ACU all-time list in the women’s triple jump with a legal best of 42-5.5 behind school record holder Stephanie Warren at 43-4.24 (13.21 meters).
