BREAKING NEWS: TAMC Head Coach Guy Morriss steps down

 Per TAMC Press Release:

A&M-Commerce Head Football Coach Guy Morriss to Step Down

Commerce, TX (Nov. 12, 2012)-After leading the Texas A&M University-Commerce football program for four seasons, Guy Morriss announced today his resignation as head football coach for the Lions.

While Morriss will no longer serve as head football coach, he will still be involved with the university.  He will serve as Special Assistant to the Athletic Director.  His duties will include fundraising, teaching, and oversight of athletic facilities and special projects.

"It has been an honor and a privilege to be a part of the A&M Commerce family for the past four years," Morriss said. "I am deeply grateful to President Dan Jones for giving me the opportunity to be a Lion and lead this football team. " I would like to especially thank the players and coaches who have given so much to this program."

Morriss became the 18th football coach in A&M-Commerce history on January 7, 2009.  The former head coach at Baylor University from 2003-2007 and at the University of Kentucky from 2001-2001 brought an impressive background that included a 15-year playing career in the NFL.

A native of Colorado City Texas, Morriss earned a bachelor's degree in secondary education from TCU in 1973 and received a master's in education from A&M-Commerce in 2011. "With transitions occurring within the athletic program, I believe this is the best time for me to pursue other interests," Morriss said. "I am convinced that it is time for A&M Commerce to bring in new leadership to lead the football program."

"Coach Morriss has made a positive contribution to A&M Commerce.  We thank him for his dedicated service and look forward to working with him in his new role, "said Dr. Jones.

Texas A&M University-Commerce will immediately begin the search for a new head football coach to lead the Lions.

Where are all the people at that said this was a great hire and it was Conley's fault 4 years ago? The problems with the FB program have a lot more to do with the administration and the uniqueness of Commerce than the head coach...

The AD sucked and so did the coach. The rest of the LSC better hope they don't get it right this time.
