LSC BASKETBALL
Lone Star Conference action starts this week with teams playing a double round robin league schedule, in which each team plays a home and away contest against each of the other teams to determine the LSC champion. The LSC champion will be the regular season winner determined by conference games, while the postseason tournament winner is designated as LSC Tournament Champion and earns the league’s automatic berth into the NCAA Championship. The top eight teams in the final conference standings qualify for the postseason tournament set for March 6-9 in Allen, Texas.

Only three
teams remain undefeated after non-conference play including West Texas A&M
on the men’s side, and Midwestern State and Texas A&M-Commerce on the
women’s side.
The LSC men have a 34-16 overall record so far this
season. In the NCAA South Central Region, the men’s teams are currently 10-10
combined versus Heartland Conference teams and 3-1 opposed to the Rocky Mountain
Athletic Conference.
The LSC women are 21-22 overall. The women’s squads
are currently 9-6 combined versus Heartland teams, and 5-1 against the RMAC,
which are the other conferences in the NCAA South Central Region.

MEN’S OFFENSIVE
Donald Sims, West Texas A&M University, SR, Forward, Chester, SC, Chester
Sims continued to lead the No. 20 Buffaloes offensively this past weekend as they went 2-0 with wins over Missouri Southern and CSU-Pueblo at the Pak-A-Sak Thanksgiving Classic in Canyon to move to a perfect 6-0 on the season. Sims averaged 18.0 points and 10.5 rebounds per contest while shooting an incredible .800 from the floor (16-20). The senior from Chester, South Carolina registered his first double-double of the season against Missouri Southern on Friday night with 19 points and 12 rebounds in the 57-55 win.
MEN’S DEFENSIVE
Dennis Hardwell, Eastern New Mexico University, JR, Forward, Los Angeles, Calif., Carson HS/LA Harbor
Hardwell’s defensive presence enabled the Greyhounds to average 15.8 points off turnovers over four games, which were played in a seven-day span. He turned in two multiple-block performances, with a two-block, four-steal performance in a win over Missouri Southern.
WOMEN’S OFFENSIVE
Peyton Adamson, Tarleton State University, JR, Guard, Rockwall, Texas, Rockwall HS
Adamson had a great week as an offensive force for the No. 21 Tarleton TexAnns. The junior guard from Rockwall averaged over 20 points per game for Tarleton against UTPB and Northeastern State. She drained 17 points, including eight of Tarleton’s nine points in the overtime period against the Falcons, before returning home where she turned in a 24-point effort against MIAA foe, NSU. She hit over half of her attempts from beyond the arc (9-17) and was a near-perfect 10-11 from the charity stripe. Adamson also had three rebounds and two assists.
WOMEN’S DEFENSIVE
Chontiquah White, West Texas A&M University, SO, Forward, Dallas, Texas, Life School
Averaged a double-double for the week as the Lady Buffs went 2-1. Tallied a career-high 16 rebounds and her second career-double-double with 11 points and 16 rebounds against Southwestern Oklahoma State. She and the rest of the Lady Buffs held McMurry to just 23 points, including an astonishing three points in the second half of an 82-23 win as the Lady Buff “D” forced 33 turnovers and held the War Hawks to 8 of 45 from the field for 17.8 percent for the game and without a field goal for the final 15:57 of the game. White had a game-high five rebounds on the defensive end and two offensive boards as WT tallied a season-high 47 rebounds. Against SWOSU, White had a season-high six offensive rebounds to go along with 10 on the defensive end. She pulled down 10 offensive rebounds for the week and 20 on the defensive end.
