Lady Buffs Crowned Lone Star Conference Tournament Champions in Double Overtime Thriller - WTAM

WTAMU tops UIW in double-overtime for title - LSC Office

West Texas A&M earned the tournament title over Incarnate Word with a 3-2 double-overtime triumph in the final of the Lone Star Conference Women’s Soccer Championship at the Pitch in Canyon, Texas.
      
Leslie Briggs, who was named the most valuable player, earned sudden victory for the Lady Buffs in the 107^th minute.  Briggs scored the game-winner off an assist from Lindsay McHorse.  WT claimed its sixth title and first since 2008.  The Lady Buffs have played in 11 tournament championship games with 6-5 mark and improved to 21-10 all-time.
      
UIW took a 1-0 lead into halftime due to a goal by Amber Guenther at the 32:47 mark.  Sydney Solomon found Guenther in the middle to put the Cardinals on top.  WT responded in the 55^th minute with a goal from McHorse on a corner kick.   The Cardinals reclaimed the lead as Sarah Johnson found the back of the net in transition at the 76:35 mark.   The Lady Buffs responded less than a minute later as Jasmine Schultz’s unassisted put back (77:21) tied the score at 2-2.
      
WT (13-6-1) avenged two regular season losses to UIW (9-8-1) to earn the league’s automatic qualification to the NCAA Regional Tournament. The pairings will be announced tomorrow, Monday, November 5 on NCAA.com at 6:30 p.m.
