LSC Basketball Weekly Release: 2012-13 season underway
LSC BASKETBALL
A majority of Lone Star Conference basketball teams played last week, with nine squads still undefeated early in the 2012-13 season.
A majority of Lone Star Conference basketball teams played last week, with nine squads still undefeated early in the 2012-13 season.
The LSC men have a 9-4 overall record so far this
season. In the NCAA South Central Region, the men’s teams are currently 3-3
combined versus Heartland Conference teams and 0-0 opposed to the Rocky Mountain
Athletic Conference.
The LSC women are 5-6 overall. The women’s squads
are currently 3-2 combined versus RMAC teams, and 1-0 against the Heartland,
which are the other conferences in the NCAA South Central Region.

Dionelle Rucker, University of the Incarnate Word, SR, Forward, San Antonio, Texas, New Life Christian Acad.
Rucker was named the St. Edward’s Shootout MVP after averaging 24.5 points per game and shooting 67.7 percent from the field for the weekend. He poured in a career-high 28 points, grabbed seven rebounds and blocked three shots while connecting on 13-of-17 from the field in an 80-77 win over UT-Permian Basin. He came back with 21 points, six rebounds and four steals in a 84-81 win at St. Edward’s.

Ryan Marsh, Angelo State University, JR, Forward, Burleson, Texas, Burleson HS
Marsh blocked six shots, the third most in a single game in Ram program history, and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Rams to a 71-65 victory over Lubbock Christian. Marsh scored a season high 14 points including eight from the free throw line.

Carter, a sophomore from Angleton, delivered a rare performance to help Midwestern State overcome a sluggish start and roll to a 79-58 win over McMurry. In the Mustangs only game last week, Carter poured in 20 points and grabbed 20 rebounds, something that hadn’t been done in nine seasons. Carter’s 20-20 performance was the first for an Midwestern State player since former standout Jel-Ani Armstrong achieved the feat in consecutive game at the end of the 2003-04 campaign. Armstrong went for 24 points and 21 rebounds at Texas A&M-Kingsville then put a 22-point, 22-rebound effort at Texas A&M-Commerce. Carter was the top rebounding freshman in the LSC last season averaging 5.6 boards a game.
