Sports fans might go with Brett Favre, Archie Manning and Wilbert Montgomery.
West Texas A & M opponents, however, might not be able to get the names Marvin Wash, Marcus Rowe and Eugene Sims out of their heads this fall.
As the Buffs wind up spring drills with Saturday's annual Maroon and White Game, three junior college transfers from Magnolia State will be on the defensive line.

WT gives backups, newcomers chance during scrimmage

With most of the potential all-conference and All-American players on the sidelines, West Texas A & M's football scrimmage Saturday morning gave coaches a chance to evaluate newcomers and backups under game conditions.
One of the players watching the scrimmage was quarterback Keith Null, whose injured right ankle finally required surgery. Null missed two games after injuring the ankle in a victory at Abilene Christian. It apparently wasn't healing as expected in the offseason, so the senior from Lampasas had surgery.

The Midwestern State Mustangs ended their first week of spring practice with a scrimmage Saturday, and head coach Bill Maskill liked what he saw on both sides of the ball.
“I thought it was a good, crisp scrimmage,” he said. “Not a lot of penalties and some good plays on both sides of the ball. It was a real good first scrimmage.”
