Spring Practice Update - UCO

EDMOND (April 8) -- Much progress has been made halfway through Central Oklahoma's spring football drills, with the Bronchos looking to accomplish even more in the final two weeks.

Approximately 70 players are participating in spring practice and new UCO head coach Tracy Holland has been pleased with his team so far. The Bronchos, will conclude its spring schedule on April 19 with a 6 p.m. scrimmage at Wantland Stadium.

"It's gone really well," said Holland, who took over the UCO reigns on Dec. 27. "Obviously we're doing quite a few things differently, especially offensively, but the players have been excited about the changes and the direction we're going."

The Bronchos had their first intrasquad scrimmage last Saturday and the defense had the upper hand.

"As expected, our defense is further along right now and they played well," Holland said. "The really rallied to the ball and did a great job. The offense struggled at times, but they made some big plays and you can see the players are starting to get it."

"It" would be the new wide-open offense the Bronchos have installed, a fast-paced attack that promises plenty of excitement.

"Our offense is based on high reps, a no huddle that gets lots of snaps and takes a toll on a defense," Holland said. "The concept is to create space, to get the ball in space to an athlete and let them run with it.

"We're excited and pleased with how it's coming along. It's a real challenge right now for our offensive line because it's a drastic departure from what they're used to, but they're doing well with it and our receivers love it."
