Change at the top of UCO Athletics

UCO Athletic Director Accepts Position With University's Foundation

From the UCO website
University of Central Oklahoma Athletic Director Bill Farley has accepted a position in the development area of UCO’s Foundation.

Farley has served as UCO’s athletic director for the past five years. UCO President W. Roger Webb said Farley has been instrumental in introducing the importance of technology, marketing and promotion to the university’s athletic program.

“Bill has done an outstanding job with our athletic program and has been an excellent communicator,” Webb said.

“I appreciate the fact that he is going to be moving into a role similar to that which he previously held at Alabama.”

Prior to coming to UCO, Farley spent 17 years in athletic and facility fund-raising at the University of Alabama and the University of Oklahoma.

Farley said he is looking forward to his new role and that he is excited to continue to serve UCO in the best capacity that he can.

“Universities are no different than major corporations, they need great team players and it is my honor to be on this team,” Farley said. Webb said he expects to move quickly to fill the athletic director position.

“This is an extremely important position to the university and the future of Broncho athletics,” Webb said.

Commentary
It looks like this closes the book on a dark time for the UCO football program. If the NCAA infractions report is accurate, Bill Farley is getting off easy. He was cited numerous times for not reporting infractions he was aware of and also of sharing confidential information with Coach Langston which hindered the investigation. But, instead of being shown the door with Langston, he is allowed to represent the university in a public position.
Some good did come from all of this. UCO now has a full-time compliance officer and a head football coach, that from all indications, has the personal integrity to never allow the program to be put in this situation again.
