Miller Named All-Region
Central Oklahoma’s Alli Miller has been named a first-team selection on the Daktronics, Inc. All-South Central Region Team, it was announced Tuesday.
Mustangs place four on Daktronics All-South Central Region team
Midwestern State placed four players on the Daktronics All-South Central Region squad as released Tuesday afternoon by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Senior goalkeeper Raul Herrera headlined a pack of three first-teamers for the Mustangs joined by senior forward Nick Auditore and sophomore defender Ryan Spence. Senior defender Brian Martinez garnered second-team honors.
Bristow, Bernick garner Daktronics all-region accolades
WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Midwestern State's Kari Bristow and Kat Bernick garnered Daktronics All-South Central Region honors Tuesday afternoon as announced by the College Sport Information Directors of America.
Rodrigues and James Selected Daktronics Inc. All-South Central Region
PORTALES, N.M. - After their record-setting season, the Eastern New Mexico University men's soccer team's Emerson Rodrigues (Jr., F, Natal, RN, Brazil/Colegio Objectivo Portigar) and Michael James (Sr., D, Dallas, Texas/Bishop Lynch HS) have been selected Daktronics All-South Central Region. The duo also was honored as members of the all-region team last year.
Meagan Lasley and Devon Herrman Earn All-Region HonorsTexas A&M University-Commerce women's soccer players Meagan Lasley and Devon Herrman were named to the Daktronics South Central Region First Team and Second Team, respectively.
Holovach selected All-Region Second Team
Texas Woman’s University junior defender Natalie Holovach has been selected to the 2009 Daktronics Inc. All-South Central Region Women’s Soccer second team.

Texas A&M-Kingsville 2009-10 men's basketball preview
Earlier this year, March 14 to be exact, the men’s basketball team from Texas A&M-Kingsville made their second trip to the NCAA Division II South Central Regional tournament in the last six years. The Javelinas had little time to tour the sights of Warrensburg, Mo., however, as host Central Missouri State sent them home after one game, pulling away for a 78-55 victory.
“Oh, man, it leaves a nasty taste in your mouth. You want to get back, you want to go back,” said senior forward Flavio Milam, one of three full-time starters returning who averaged 8.5 points and 5.4 rebounds a season ago. “But the main thing is you have to have a goal but you have to take it one game at a time and when we get to that level, we turn it on. Right now our focus is getting there. We don’t want to hold our heads down about last year too much,” Milam said. “We’re ready to get on with the future and continue to play basketball.”
Added senior guard Adan Montalvo: “Knowing that we were there, we were competing, we let it slip. We didn’t play to the best of our ability last year. You want to go back. It’s a great experience. We’ve got a lot of the guys coming back, the new guys. You just hope we all get to experience that.”
A little's enough
It wasn’t pretty, but it was a win. The Angelo State University men’s basketball team scored just 48 points in its season opener Tuesday at the Junell Center but it was enough for a 48-40 victory against Texas-Permian Basin.
The Rams made just 14 field goals and shot just 29.2 percent from the field in the win. Fortunately, UTPB made just 14 field goals and shot just 35 percent.
“I thought UT-Permian Basin played a great game and had a great game plan,” ASU head coach Fred Rike said. “They ran the shot clock down to 15 seconds on every possession. They tried to shorten the game and did a great job doing it.”
Mustangs, McCasland set for first home game
After winning his first two games on the road, Grant McCasland will make his home debut as Midwestern State’s head basketball coach tonight when the Mustangs host St. Mary’s University at 7 p.m. in D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
“We keep getting better,” McCasland said after wins over Trinity University (63-52) and St. Edward’s (76-61) in Austin on Sunday and Monday. “We’ve got a group that will have more success if we will be a little more patient offensively and make people guard us out at the top,”
The new MSU coach said the low scores were caused by the slow style of both opponents, each who ran a lot of zone defense against the defending Lone Star Conference champs.
“We will see a lot of zone this year until we make shots and turn and drive and penetrate the zone instead of jacking up a 3,” he explained.
Buffs claim opener
If the opening night of the West Texas A&M men's basketball season is any indication of what's in store, Buffs head coach Rick Cooper may need some help getting rid of the gray hairs. WT forward Alex Davis nailed a 3-pointer with 1.7 seconds remaining in regulation to send the game into overtime, then senior guard Nick Burns knocked down a 10-foot fade away jumper with 2.4 seconds in overtime, leading the Buffs to a wild 89-87 win over New Mexico Highlands at the Wilson Complex in Las Vegas, N.M.
Cooper opened his 17th season at WT beating a Highlands squad which handed his Buffs a loss in last year's opener.
"We kind of did what we had to do to sneak out of here with a win," Cooper said. "And I do mean sneak."
Wildcats Roll in Season Opener
The Wildcats rolled over Baptist Bible College Tuesday night winning 116-74. Led by Giordan Cole who recorded a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds gave ACU their fourth highest point total in a season opener.
Rams outslug UTPB, 48-40
The Angelo State men's basketball team erased a four-point halftime lead to pull away with a season-opening 48-40 home win over Texas-Permain Basin Tuesday night.

The Greyhounds opened their 2009-10 season with an 83-68 win over WEstern New Mexico.

M. Basketball. Burns' Shot Gives Buffs 89-87 Overtime Victory
Las Vegas, N.M. - Nick Burns' 10-foot fall-away jumper with 2.4 seconds remaining in overtime gave the West Texas A&M Buffaloes an 89-87, victory over New Mexico Highlands in the season-opener for both teams.Burns finished the night with a career-high 28 points, while guard Joe Mincey, playing his first game as a Buff, accounted for 21 points. His last second shot was made possible by an unlikely three-pointer by post Alex Davis.

Aggies thump Jets in season opener
WICHITA, Kansas (November 17) – For the second straight year the Cameron Aggie women’s basketball team (1-0) and head coach Tom Webb begin their season with a win. Opening up the 2009-2010 season tonight on the road, the Aggies pounded the Newman University Jets (0-2) by the score 70-51. CU dominated throughout and led for 36:11 of tonight’s 40-minute contest.
TexAnns open season with 64-38 win over UTPB
Brittnie Haley scored 11 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to record a double-double in her first game back in over a year and half to lead the TexAnns to a 64-38 season-opening victory over Texas-Permian Basin at Wisdom Gym on Tuesday.
Rambelles take charge in OT
What the Angelo State University women’s basketball team couldn’t do in regulation of its season opener against St. Edward’s University Monday, it was able to do in overtime. The Rambelles outscored SEU 13-1 in the extra period after the teams finished the first 40 minutes tied and defeated the Hilltoppers 76-64 at the Junell Center.
“We had the momentum of the game and we took it,” ASU senior Casie Adams said. “I don’t know what the difference was. I guess our offense was just clicking.”

ACU Signs Four Prep Standouts
Four prep standouts have signed National Letters of Intent to enroll at Abilene Christian and play basketball, Head Coach Shawna Lavender announced last week. The signing class includes Mackenzie Lankford, a 5-7 guard from Weatherford, Hillari Adam, a 5-11 wing from San Angelo, Renata Marquez, a 5-9 wing from Conroe, and Savannah Smith, a 5-7 guard from Dallas.

WT signs three players for softball
The West Texas A&M softball team has inked three players to letters of intent for the 2010 season. Alyssa Lemos, Haley Colwell and Chloe Wurst will play for the Lady Buffs when they begin play on Feburary 4th against East Central at the St. Mary's Classic in San Antonio.
