Game #1, A&M Commerce vs TWU played to a scoreless tie through 110 minutes of action, with the shot count 13-10 favoring Commerce. The hard-packed, windy conditions at The Pitch were not helpful to either team, with TWU advancing on PK’s.
Game #2, ACU vs Midwestern was a rematch of a week earlier contest, with the same result. The first half was a scoreless defensive duel, the ‘Cats managed a 54th minute goal when Lyndsey Womack touched a long throw into the six to the net. Midwestern converted a PK from a handling call in the penalty area for the 1-1 tie in regulation. Kari Bristow scored in the 5th minute of OT for the golden goal winner.
Game #3 on Friday saw TWU falling to Central Oklahoma 1-0. The Pioneers appeared dead-legged after their 2OT match on Thursday, and did not attempt a shot. Central notched 13 shots and scored the eventual winner in the 55th minute.
Game #4 on Friday was Midwestern losing to WT A&M 1-0. The Mustangs also appeared to show the effects of their Thursday match. The Mustangs managed just three shots in the contest to WT’s twelve. The winner resulted from a free kick headed in at the 72nd minute mark.
The tournament final on Sunday was a 2OT draw decided in favor of Central Oklahoma via PK’s. Central scored in the 30th minute of play to hold a 1-0 halftime lead before WT equalized on a set piece in the 78th. The Bronchos claimed the automatic bid into the national tournament with the win.
The NCAA Regional tournament begins this weekend with West Texas hosting Truman State vs Nebraska-Omaha of the MIAA on Friday at noon. The winner faces WT on Sunday at one. Central Oklahoma earned a trip to San Antonio to face Heartland Conference foe St. Edwards Friday at 7pm. The winner faces Incarnate Word on Sunday at 1PM.
