1 & 2 seeds enjoy a first round (Thursday) bye, and WT also has the advantage of having their student-athletes sleep in their own beds and playing on their home field.
Looking at the results of the tournament field against each other may or may not be of value, but we’ll do it anyway. In seeding order:
WT is 3-1-1 against the field
Central Oklahoma is 2-3
TWU is 2-3
Midwestern is 3-2
ACU is 3-1-1
Commerce is 1-4
None of that really matters, however - it’s all about what happens Thursday, Friday and Sunday.
Game one. Commerce(#5) vs TWU (#3). Commerce, who went three rounds deep into the NCAA tourney last year, hasn’t been able to replicate that success, and seems to be on a bit of a slide of late. The Lions do have history at the LSC tournament (six consecutive appearances and twelve total) and will be a worthy opponent. TWU is making their third trip to the tourney in their eighth year. The Pioneers made the tourney also in 2005 and 2007. One interesting factoid is that both years the Pioneers made the tourney, they eliminated Commerce via PK’s, after a tie in regulation. Commerce did win the regular season meeting (Sept 29th) between the two, with a 1-0 result. That game begins at noon with live stream available for those of us unwilling to drive to Canyon.
Game Two. Midwestern(#4) vs ACU(#5). Midwestern is a fixture at the tournament with this being their fourteenth appearance, while ACU is making their second consecutive trip in only the third year of the program. ACU was in the conference lead only two weeks ago, but suffered two losses and a tie since. Midwestern won the regular season match last week, 3-0. ACU dominated the first half but failed to score, while the Mustangs dominated the second half and notched three goals. Factoid – Midwestern is 5-0 in first round games. The match begins at 2:30 also with a live stream available.

TWU, Midwestern advance in LSC soccer tourney
Both higher-seeded teams advanced Thursday during the first round of the Lone Star Conference Women's Soccer Championship. Third-seeded Texas Woman's and No. 4 Midwestern State recorded victories to advance to the second round of the tournament at The Pitch on West Texas A&M's campus.
TWU defeated Texas A&M-Commerce in a shootout, 4-1, after playing to a scoreless tie after 110 minutes. TWU scored on its first four attempts, while Commerce failed to find the back of the net until its third try. MSU needed overtime to overtake Abilene Christian, 2-1. MSU's Kari Bristow connected on both of the Mustangs' goals, including the winner in the 94th minute of overtime.
Texas Woman's advances to face No. 2 Central Oklahoma at noon today, while MSU will face host and No. 1 seed WT at 2:30 p.m. The winners will move on to the championship match at 1 p.m. Sunday.
Midwestern ends ACU soccer season with OT win
Midwestern State beat Abilene Christian again, but this time it was much harder. Kari Bristow scored two goals, including one four minutes into overtime, to eliminate the Wildcats 2-1 Thursday in the Lone Star Conference Women’s Soccer Championship. In their last LSC match of the regular season, Midwestern took a 3-0 win in Wichita Falls.
Midwestern advances to play top-seeded West Texas A&M at 2:30 p.m. today. Lyndsey Womack scored in the 53rd minute to give ACU a 1-0 lead but Bristow knocked in a penalty kick at 72:27 to tie the match. ACU finishes 10-7-2.
Bristow’s two-goal game lifts MSU in tournament
Kari Bristow’s first two-goal game of her career couldn’t have come at a better time for the Midwestern State women's soccer team. Bristow scored once in the second half and then again in the overtime minutes to lift MSU to a 2-1 victory over Abilene Christian in the opening round of the Lone Star Conference Women’s Soccer Championships Thursday night.
MSU (13-4-2) advances to face tournament host West Texas A&M today at 2:30 p.m.

Women's Soccer: Postseason awards announced
Four teams had more than seven players honored on the All-Lone Star Conference women's soccer teams announced Thursday evening during a banquet at the LSC Championship in Canyon, Texas. Central Oklahoma, the LSC runner-up, led the way with 10 selections including one first-team, four second-team and five honorable mention nods. Abilene Christian had nine honorees with one first-teamer, and four each on the second team and honorable mention teams.
LSC regular season champion West Texas A&M had seven picks with a league-high five first-team choices and one second-teamer and one honorable mention. Midwestern State also had seven selections with three first-teamers, one second-teamer and three honorable mentions. Texas A&M-Commerce and Texas Woman's each added one first-team recipient to round out the 13-person team.
A&M-C's Meagan Lasley earned Offensive Player of the Year acclaim. TWU's Nori Morgan was Goalkeeper of the Year, while Defensive Player of the Year accolades were shared by UCO's Alli Miller and WTAMU's Kayla Sisco. The Bronchos Brittni Walker was named Freshman of the Year, while Southwestern Oklahoma's Mark Persson was tabbed Coach of the Year after a successful first season with the Bulldogs.
On the first team were WTAMU's Nadia James, Sisco, Lindsay McHorse, Miriam Dominguez and Adi Stein, UCO's Miller, ACU's Lyndsey Womack, MSU's Katherine Bernick, Kelsey Hill and Kari Bristow, A&M-C's Lasley and Devon Herrman and TWU's Morgan.
Altogether, 56 student-athletes were recognized with the all-conference honors program, including at least one player from all 11 women's soccer teams in the league.

Horner tops LSC women's soccer academic awards
Texas Woman's midfielder Jacqueline Horner was named Lone Star Conference Academic Player of the Year as conference officials announced the women's soccer academic awards during the LSC Championship banquet on Thursday.
Horner, a senior kinesiology major, has a perfect 4.0 cumulative grade point average. She started all 15 games for TWU, anchoring the defense and helping the Pioneers post six shutouts. She scored one goal on the season, the game-winner against Eastern New Mexico on October 10th. Horner is a two-time LSC all-academic honoree and a member of the 2008 and 2009 ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team. Horner is the lone Pioneer on the All-Academic team. She is joined on the 11-member squad by players from Midwestern State, Texas A&M-Commerce, East Central, Angelo State, Central Oklahoma, Abilene Christian and Eastern New Mexico.
The All-Academic team is chosen by the league's sports information directors, who select players on the basis of both athletic and academic achievement. To be eligible for LSC academic recognition, student-athletes need at least a 3.30 grade point average and must be at least a sophomore. All academically qualified student-athletes not selected for the All-Academic Team are then named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll.
ACU, UCO and ECU each placed two players on the team. Jordan Reese and Courtney Wilson earned spots for the Wildcats, Alli Miller and Angie Rundle for the Bronchos and Jordan Antonisse and Laura McNab for the Tigers. Finishing up the list were ASU's Christian Willman, ENMU's Samantha Lawrence, MSU's Ashley Meek and A&M-C's Lacy Alexander.
In addition to the 11 on the All-Academic team, 48 athletes were named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll in recognition of their academic achievements.
