LSC Scoop Power Poll and Week 10 Superlatives

1. Midwestern State (1) - Can they get by ACU and into the playoffs?
2. Tarleton State (2) - Once again, WT stands between Texans and playoffs.
3. Abilene Christian (4) - Playoffs started last weekend for Wildcats.
4. Texas A&M-Kingsville (3) - Hogs road woes continue.
5. West Texas A&M (5) - Will try to ruin Texans season, again.
6. Angelo State (6) - Out of the playoff race, into the spoiler role.
7. Texas A&M-Commerce (8) - Lion's kings of the north.
8. Southeastern Oklahoma (7) - Driving for go ahead TD, when disaster struck.
9. Eastern New Mexico (9) - late first half turnover turned tie game into rout.
10. Central Oklahoma (11) - back to 2008 form for a week.
11. Northeastern State (10) - Not many bright spots this week.
12. Southwestern Oklahoma (12) - OPSU with 491 yards of offense?
13. East Central (13) - 305 passing yards gives Tigers a glimmer of hope for 2010.

Team Performance of the Week - West Texas A&M
The Buffaloes continue their late season tear through the LSC with a 66-23 rout of Northeastern State. WTAM outgained NSU by a 629-259 margin, with 141 of the Riverhawks' yards coming on two fourth quarter drives after WT took a 59-10 lead. Taylor Harris and Tanner Marsh each threw for over 200 yards and 3 TDs. Harris was 19-25 passing and Marsh 19-24.

Team Offensive Performance of the Week - Midwestern State
The Mustangs used a balanced attack to pile up 656 yards and 50 points against Eastern New Mexico. Led by BeeJay Mathis's 100 yards, MSU rolled up 300 yards on the ground as a team, and Zack Eskridge passed for 356 more. The Mustangs punted just twice on the evening, converted 11 of 17 third downs and held the ball for over 38 minutes.

Team Defensive Performance of the Week - Texas A&M Commerce
The Lions shut down the Savage Storm running game, limiting them to just 31 yards on the ground. Justin Pitrucha did pick up 300 yards passing, but only had one TD on the day and was sacked 7 times. Overall, the Lions held Southeastern Oklahoma 64 yards and 16 points below their season averages.

Offensive Performance of the Week - Brittan Golden, West Texas A&M
Golden had the best game of his career, with 7 receptions for 178 yards and three TDs. For the season, Golden now has 35 catches for 626 yards and a team leading 7 TD receptions.

Defensive Performance of the Week - Cory Whitfield, Texas A&M Commerce
Whitfield led the Lions with 10 tackles, including 2 for losses and broke up a pass. His biggest play came with the Savage Storm driving for a possible go-ahead TD. On third and six at the Lions 35 yard line, Whitfield sacked Justin Pitrucha for a 10 yard loss, forcing a fumble which Stephen DeGrate picked up and ran back 55 yards for a game-clinching TD. This is the third defensive scoring play that Whitfield has had a big part in. Earlier, he had a 37 interception return for a TD against Abilene Christian, and a 25 yard fumble return for TD against Northeastern State. All have come in the fourth quarter of the games.

Special Teams Performance of the Week - Jerome Hewitt, Southeastern Oklahoma
Hewitt returned three kickoffs for 144 yards, including running the opening kickoff back 97 yards for a TD. For the season, Hewitt leads the LSC with a 31.2 yard average and 2 TDs.
