Women’s Soccer – Final Week Recap

The regular season is behind us, and the Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M emerged as the champions and host of the conference tourney.

A recap of the weekend’s games:

West Texas took care of business in Oklahoma this weekend, defeating both ECU and NSU by identical 3-0 scores. A stumble by Central Oklahoma combined with the two wins gave WT the hosting privileges for the second consecutive year.

A&M Commerce took (then) conference leader Central Oklahoma to 118 minutes of scoreless action before dropping a 1-0 game in Edmond. Sunday the Lady Lions dropped another match 2-1 to SWOSU Bulldogs. Commerce did make the conference tourney as the #6 seed.

Central Oklahoma was in the lead for the hosting rights and regular season crown. The Bronchos won Friday in a 1-0 2OT match against Commerce. On Sunday the Bronchos outshot TWU 25-7 but could not convert those chances into goals and were defeated 2-0. UCO enters the tourney as the #2 seed, gaining a first round bye.

Midwestern welcomed ACU to Wichita Falls for a Friday match. The Wildcats dominated the first half, holding the Mustangs without a shot on goal. Midwestern came out with purpose in the second and scored three goals within a fifteen minute span for the win. Sunday against Angelo Midwestern dominated play, but allowed ASU a second half goal that cost them the game, 1-0, and the #3 seed. Midwestern enters the post season with the #4 seed.

ACU traveled to Wichita Falls, dominated the first half of a Friday match, but were buried by a three goal second period. The Wildcats enter the conference tourney for the second time in just their third season as the #5 seed.

Angelo State visited Midwestern without a chance for a tourney berth, but spoiled Midwestern’s Senior Day by taking a 1-0 win.

ECU managed a 3-2 win over ENM on Friday, with the first goal coming just 15 seconds into the match. Eastern answered with two first half goals for a 2-1 halftime lead. ECU netted two in the second period for the win. The Tigers were very efficient with their three goals coming on just five shots.

TWU visited Weatherford and SWOSU and managed a tie on Friday. Sunday the Pioneers surprised Central Oklahoma with a 2-0 win, which gives TWU the #3 seed for tournament play.

ENM tried ECU on Friday but were turned away 3-2. Sunday NSU was more accommodating and the Zia’s left with a 1-0 win.

SWOSU continued their strong finish by surprising TWU at the end of regulation to force a 1-1 draw. The late score deflated TWU who did not attempt a shot in either of the OT periods. Sunday the Bulldogs scored two unanswered against Commerce before a late goal and earned a 2-1 win.
