A routine traffic stop early Wednesday morning led to the arrest of four Tarleton State University football players. At approximately 12:25 a.m., a Stephenville police officer stopped a black Toyota pickup in the 500 block of East Washington Street. The driver, 21-year-old Nathaniel “Bubba” Paul Stringfellow, was arrested for driving while intoxicated and a warrant for driving with an invalid license.

Stringfellow is a sophomore defensive back for the Tarleton Texans. He was released from the Erath County Jail Wednesday after posting a $6,000 bond. Three passengers, Jahmeel Rashad Hobson, 22, Shawn Michael Ragon, 23, and Aaron Micheil Wagner, 25, were also arrested.

“The passengers were all intoxicated so they were placed under arrest as well because at that point the three of them were by themselves and there was nobody to take care of them,” Captain Jason King said. All three were charged with public intoxication at the scene. Upon arrival to the jail, however, officers discovered Hobson had spit out a small plastic bag.“Our patrol cars have video cameras in them,” King said.

“When (officers) reviewed the video, Hobson and Wagner had been taken to jail in the same car. On the way to jail Hobson got (the bag) out of his pocket in the back of the car and was able to pass it to Wagner, who passed it back to Hobson.”

Hobson and Wagner were both charged with possession of a controlled substance. King said the substance is believed to be cocaine.
