Recruiting Insight - Dominick Maddox

First up in our 2010 recruiting season Q&A's is Dominick Maddox.

Dominick is finishing his second year at Navarro College. Dominick had 55 tackles and an interception in his two years. He played his high school ball at Converse Judson, where he helped lead Judson to the 5A Division I state championship game. He finished 2007 with 172 tackles and 3 interceptions, good enough to land him third team all-state honors. He was rated as a 2 star recruit by Scout, and a 3 star recruit by Rivals. ESPNU had him listed as the #16 safety in Texas and #92 in the nation.

He originally signed with Texas State out of high school, but ended up playing his first two years of college at perennial national junior college power Navarro.

Q - Dominick, what an outstanding season for Navarro College. What will you remember most from your time there?
DM - What I will remember most is winning. Being 20-2 for two years and having a chance to go to the national championship is something that I consider special.

Q - Tell us a little bit about recruiting. When did colleges start coming around? Was it ever a distraction?
DM - Just these past couple of weeks schools have been starting to show interest. It was a little bit of a distraction in the middle of the season up till now because it had me think that my future was uncertain and not knowing was a problem for me.

Q - How is recruiting this year different from when you were in high school?
DM - It's different in junior college because you have teams that have certain needs. Not every school recruits from junior colleges, universities want their players straight out of high school.

Q - Who are the schools interested in you?
DM - North Texas, Louisiana Tech, UTEP, Stony Point, Texas State, Ark St, Midwestern State, Incarnate Word.

Q - What schools are you most interested in?
DM - I'm interested in every school that is willing to let me continue my education and my football career

Q - How big of a role do academics play in your decision? Have you decided on a major?
DM - Huge to be honest, my body isn't going to last forever and but my mind will.

Q - What strengths do you have that will help you be successful at the next level?
My aggressiveness and my ability to be a great run stopper.

Q - Who are your role models, or the people that have helped you get where you are today?
DM - My father, he has always gave me support.

Q - Any advice for guys that will be going through this process in the next year or two?
DM - Don't put yourself in a situation were you have to be in this process. Keep your grades up and never let them slip away.

Q - What teammates do you think have the ability to play in the LSC but are being overlooked? DM - Our starting 22 (Evyn Branch) and numerous back ups have the ability to play in the LSC. Our whole squad is talented.

Thanks Dominick. Good luck to you. No doubt you will be an asset to your next university.
