Coaching Changes at Midwestern State

MSU loses two assistants, while a third is rumored to be leaving as well

Link to Story in Times News Record

"Offensive coordinator Glenn Thomas has been hired by the Atlanta Falcons as an offensive quality control coach. Thomas was an intern coaching wide receivers for the Baltimore Ravens in training camp from 2001-2005. Brian Billick, former Ravens' HC, is married to Felicia Thomas's aunt (Felicia is Glenn's wife).

“It was a no-brainer,” the 30-year-old Thomas said. “I’m fortunate to have
NFL connections. That level has always intrigued me. Coach Mas (Bill
Maskill) knows that’s something I’d like to do professionally and I
appreciate his support on that. I talked to (MSU president) Dr. (Jesse)
Rogers yesterday and he understands that, too.

Once you get there you have to prove what you know,” he said. “The success
and productivity we’ve had gives me some credibility to get hired. I’ve worked
with some good players and some good coaches to put me where I am today. Now I
have to prove myself again.”

Thomas isn’t the only coach Maskill will have to replace. Secondary coach Allen Johnson left the team in mid-January to become the Defensive Coordinator at Texas A&M-Commerce.."

SCOOP - A third (and even bigger) defection is rumored to be forthcoming. We are in the process of verifying and will post the announcement once it has been confirmed.

Defection is an interesting word choice. The two coaches that left went from D2 to NFL or from position coach to coordinator. Looks to me like both are promotions. That's what business is all about.

The 3rd coach leaving will be a lateral move to another LSC school.

As for the use of the word defection, it was meant as a sudden loss of 3 coaches in such a short period of time. It wasn't meant as a negative comment towards MSU.

Tarleton and Commerce lost a lot from their staffs as well.

It looks like Commerce has filled a big hole. Is Tarleton going to name new coaches anytime soon.

This is a bad time of year for these schools to have so much turnover. It raises questions as to just what's going on.

Perhaps it is not a lateral move if it is a better job/better situation to work under..........

The Tarlton DC position has been filled, and will begin there this Saturday.

As for the comment regarding a lateral move not being one if it is a better situation, I totally agree. That is exactly what is happening in the new Tarleton hire.

Who got the Tarleton DC job?

We were told off the record, and at this time will not say, until we receive word from our source that it is ok to run with. Worst case scenario, we will print it Saturday.

Tarleton fans will be very happy. It is a very nice hire.

I am really good at Madden 08. I really think I can be an offensive coordinator at one of these schools.

Billy Maskill

He's going to look awfully silly in that uniform. Kinda like Barney Fife.

Looks like defection was a good description. Are they gonna have any coaches left?
