New coach at Angelo State

Matt Fryar is joining Angelo Staff as a defensive assistant, likely defensive coordinator.

Fryar is an Angelo alum and was a captain on the 2000 Rams football team.

“There are not very many places he would leave for and that’s one of them,”
Allman said. “It’s one of the things that when he set out in his coaching career
that he wanted to do, to be able to go back to Angelo State. He’s prepared
himself at this point in his career to do that. It’s an honor foremost for him
to be considered for that position and it’s an honor for our program and for our
players that he’s coached that have done so well during his tenure here for him
to be highly thought of. “Seeing Coach Fryar leave is a sad time for us because
he’s special to everyone in our program, but we’ll find a way to get better
because of it. That’ll be hard to do, but we’ll find another fabulous coach who
adds another dimension to our staff and bring them in here. It’ll end up being a
positive one way or the other.”

Defensive Coach Eule Ford has left Angelo State, possibly returning to Texas College.

(on a side note, a quick glance at the coaching staff at Permian shows Jeff Howard as the secondary coach. Is this the former All-American from ENMU and son of current ENMU OC Mike Howard?)

Yes, Jeff is the former All-American. This is his first season at Permian, he was at Midland Lee last season.
