Lady Buffs roll into LSC final
Now that's the way to reach a championship game.

West Texas A&M, which struggled to beat Northeastern State by five in the Lone Star Conference Tournament quarterfinals two days ago, made a statement Friday night, simply running all over Southeastern Oklahoma State, 93-63, in the semifinals at Bruin Field House in Bartlesville, Okla.

Bronchos advance to LSC finals
BARTLESVILLE — Now it's time for the rematch. And this time the stakes are much higher.No. 12-ranked Central Oklahoma took control with an early second-half scoring blitz and went on to cruise past Texas A&M-Commerce 100-86 in the semifinals of the Lone Star Conference Women's Basketball Championship at Bruin Field House here Friday night.

That puts the Bronchos in Saturday's 7 p.m. title game against No. 15 West Texas A&M in a rematch of last year's finals that the Lady Buffs won. The UCO-WT winner not only claims the overall league crown, but will probably also earn the right to host the NCAA Division II South Central Regional next week.

MSU seeking another win over Javelinas in LSC semifinals
BARTLESVILLE, Okla. — Play it again, Sam.

Just one week ago, Midwestern State and Texas A&M-Kingsville squared off at D.L. Ligon Coliseum in the final basketball game of the regular season. The Mustangs won easily, 80-59. Today, they meet again in the semifinals of the Lone Star Conference Championship tournament at 2:30 p.m. in Bruin Fieldhouse.

Wildcats sweep Buffs in doubleheader
It was a wild finish Friday to the first game on a weekend Lone Star Conference series pitting No. 3 Abilene Christian against West Texas A&M. WT scored twice in the top of the seventh inning of Game 1 to take a 6-4 lead only to see ACU strike for three runs in the bottom of the frame to pull off 7-6 win.

ACU sweeps doubleheader from Buffs
West Texas A&M continues to live in Heartbreak Hotel. For the second time in as many weekends, the Buffs led entering the final inning only to lose as Abilene Christian scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to pull out a 7-6 win in Lone Star Conference action Friday at Crutcher Scott Field.

Strickland pitches Javelinas to victory
After losing the first game of a doubleheader 8-6 in extra innings, Texas A&M-Kingsville senior pitcher Sam Strickland did not let visiting Central Oklahoma take the second game on Friday. Strickland allowed just one run in eight innings while striking out 12 in a 5-3 Javelina victory at Nolan Ryan Field. Strickland had a shutout going until the eighth inning when Kellin Sheets drove in a run for the Bronchos with a two-out single. Strickland allowed eight hits and just two walks while earning his second win of the season.

Rams get bats going, defeat 'Hawks
It had not been the best of weeks for Angelo State University athletics. The Rams and 'Belles basketball teams lost in the first round of their conference tournaments, and the No. 1-ranked ASU softball team lost Friday for just the third time this season. Friday against Northeastern State, the ASU baseball team couldn't make up for all that other stuff - but the Rams sure tried.

Zias blank Kingsville, gain split of twin bill
PORTALES — Kristen Cruickshank’s 10th homer of the season, a walkoff grand slam, gave the Eastern New Mexico University softball team a 10-0 win over 24th-ranked Texas A&M-Kingsville on Friday at Zia Softball Field and a split of their Lone Star Conference doubleheader.

The Javelinas built an 8-1 lead in the opener and held on for a 9-8 victory. The teams complete the three-game series with a 1 p.m. contest today.


Lady Buffs outslug Texas Woman's, 14-6
With the wind blowing out, the West Texas A&M softball team survived a slugfest by beating Texas Woman's 14-6 on Friday in the opening game of the three-game Lone Star Conference series at Lady Buff Yard.

"We knew coming out that the wind was going to be blowing out," WT coach Kevin Blaskowsi said. "It is a typical day at Lady Buff Yard. When the wind is blowing out, it is going to be high scoring."
