For the first time in school history, the Angelo State University softball team has moved to the top of national poll as the National Fastpitch Coaches Association released its first regular season Top 25 Wednesday.

The Rambelles, who were ranked No. 21 in the preseason, boast a 21-2 record.

Zias split with Highlands
LAS VEGAS, N.M. — Eastern New Mexico University’s bats were held silent in the opener of a doubleheader Wednesday at New Mexico Highlands, but not in the second game.

Pitcher Kristen Cruickshank and left fielder Josette Aguirre smacked three-run homers as the Zias routed NMHU 10-1, gaining a split of the doubleheader after Highlands’ Kelsey Groff doubled twice and pitched a one-hitter in the Cowgirls’ 5-1 first-game win.

SOSU softball team at No. 5 nationally
DURANT -- After getting off to a blistering 24-3 start, the Southeastern softball team has been voted No. 5 in the latest NFCA Division II Softball poll released by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association on Wednesday.

The Savage Storm opened the preseason poll at No. 8 and moved up the No. 5 spot after starting the season on a roll, including winning 18 straight dating back to a 1-0 win over Emporia State on Feb. 13.

Lone Star Conference member Angelo State is the No. 1 team, while fellow South Division foes Abilene Christian and Texas A&M-Kingsville crack the poll at No. 18 and No. 24, respectively. West Texas A&M is also receiving votes in the poll.
