Football News
WT spring football drills start today
Are you ready for some spring football?

West Texas A&M opens its spring season today with 13 practices, one scrimmage and the annual Maroon-White Game planned through April 4. Fifth-year WT coach Don Carthel returns 11 starters - three offense, eight defense - from last year's 11-2 playoff team.

Defense takes over in MSU scrimmage
Midwestern State football coach Bill Maskill didn’t see anything he didn’t expect to see Saturday as the Mustangs finished up their first week of spring practice with a scrimmage.

“The defense is ahead of the offense and that’s to be expected,” he said as his offense failed to score in the 40-play scrimmage. “They’re always going to be. Timing takes awhile to get down and everybody has to be on the same page (on ofense). It’s a lot easier to attack them; play assignment football; and just let it go.”

White Tops Blue in Intrasquad Scrimmage
KINGSVILLE---Quarterback Nate Poppell connected with wideout Ryan Lincoln on a 58-yard scoring play with less than six minutes left to break a scoring drought in a two-quarter Texas A&M-Kingsville football scrimmage here Saturday morning on the practice field in Javelina Stadium. Several hundred parents and fans had watched the defenses dominate until the touchdown by the White squad.

"It was a great day, we had great fans and the the players really got after it," Bo Atterberry, Javelina head football coach, said after the scrimmage. "We split the team into the two units a day earlier and they hadn't worked together. It's wasn't exactly as we wanted it to be but the players are beginning to get it. We're happy with their overall performance."
