Mustangs cruise to LSC semifinals
This game was decided in the first four minutes. Then again, you might even say it was decided before the opening tip.

When the referees caught Cameron dunking during warm-up, they called a technical foul and gave Midwestern State two free throws and Nolan Richardson gave the Mustangs a 2-0 lead before the clock started. The Aggies would never get any closer than that.

Rams eliminated from conference tourney
BARTLESVILLE, Okla. - The Angelo State University men's basketball team still hasn't won a Lone Star Conference tournament game since 2001.

The Rams struggled shooting the ball from everywhere on the court Thursday and lost to Southwestern Oklahoma State 82-65 at the Bruin Field House and were eliminated from the tournament.

BARTLESVILLE, OKLAHOMA - The goal for any basketball team in March is to survive and advance and that is exactly what the Texas A&M-Kingsville men's basketball did on Thursday night in the first round of the Lone Star Conference Tournament. The Javelinas knocked off Texas A&M-Commerce, 50-48 in the Bruin Field House.

Flavio Milam grabbed an offensive rebound and dropped in layup for Texas A&M-Kingsville that turned out to be the difference as the Javelinas knocked off the Texas A&M University-Commerce Lions, 50-48, on Thursday night in the first round of the Lone Star Conference Tournament in Bartlesville, Okla.

“We were able to knock it out on there and get another possession,” said Javelinas head coach Pete Peterson. “I told my coach right there that’s the play of the game.”

Lady Buffs enjoy home away from home
West Texas A&M's Lady Buffs hope to remain perfect at Bartlesville, Okla., as they meet Southeastern Oklahoma State at 6 tonight in the semifinals of the Lone Star Conference Postseason Tournament at Bruin Fieldhouse.

The Lady Buffs won three games there last year en route to capturing their second postseason tournament title in three years.

ASU baseball update for March 6
Of note: The Rams return home for the first time since Feb. 14 for this weekend's four-game series with the RiverHawks. The series will begin with a doubleheader at 4 p.m. today and will conclude with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Saturday. ... The Rams are coming off a four-game series against Tarleton State last weekend. ASU won three of the four games. The Rams were led by Austin Lasprilla, who batted .500 in the series with four doubles and seven RBIs. ... NSU was swept by Southeastern Oklahoma in a four-game series last weekend. ... ASU is 11-5 all-time against the RiverHawks. The Rams won three of the four games the teams played last season. ... The Rams will be back in action Tuesday when they play at St. Edward's.

Buffs aim to halt slump
West Texas A&M has no easy task in attempting to end a six-game Lone Star Conference baseball losing streak. The Buffs visit Abilene Christian for a four-game series, with doubleheaders scheduled for 3 p.m. today and 1 p.m. Saturday at Abilene's Crutcher-Scott Field. The Buffs (10-10 overall) were swept in a four-game home series last weekend by Southwestern Oklahoma State, dropping into a tie for 10th in the LSC at 4-8.

ASU softball update for March 6
Of note: The Rambelles open LSC South play this weekend against the TexAnns. ASU is the only team in the LSC that hasn't begun division play yet. The teams will play a single game today beginning at 2 p.m. and a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 11:30 a.m. ... ASU is coming off a doubleheader sweep of Texas-Permian Basin a week ago. The Rambelles were led by Sandy James, who hit two home runs in the first game of the doubleheader to give her 11 on the season. She then pitched the 'Belles to a 12-1 win in the second game. ... TSU is coming off a sweep of St. Mary's on Tuesday. The TexAnns lost two of three games against Texas A&M-Kingsville to open LSC play last weekend. ... ASU is 22-9 all-time against TSU. The 'Belles took two of three from the TexAnns last season. ... The 'Belles will be back in action next weekend when they host Eastern New Mexico.

Lady Buffs to face Texas Woman's in first LSC series at home
The West Texas A&M softball team is home at last. The Lady Buffs play their first Lone Star Conference home series and only their third game overall on their home field when they take on Texas Woman's at 2 p.m. today. The series concludes with a doubleheader starting at noon Saturday.

South Texas Report 03-06-09
Texas A&M-Kingsville senior Courtney Rigamonti was named the Lone Star Conference South Division Pitcher of the Week for March 5. Rigamonti picked up two victories over South rival Tarleton State last weekend. Last Friday, she allowed five hits, two runs and no walks while striking out four batters as the Javelinas won 3-2. Last Saturday, she tossed a one-hitter, allowing just two runs and a walk while striking out a career-best 10 batters as the Javs won again 3-2. She limited the Texans to a .120 batting average and picked up her 10th and 11th wins of the season.
