LSC Roundup 3-10

Today is basically a West Texas A&M version of the LSC Roundup. Any other news out there? Hello...anyone.... Hello....

Basketball News
WT trainer: Brister to remain sidelined
West Texas A&M's Emily Brister will be out for the remainder of the basketball season because of the knee injury suffered Feb. 11 against Midwestern State. Brister, a three-time All-American, has been sidelined since suffering a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament at Wichita Falls.

''This is not an issue of toughness, desire or being able to deal with pain,'' WT head athletic trainer Ron Hulsey said. ''Due to the ACL tear and MCL (medial collateral ligament) sprain, her knee is unstable and is not safe to play any cutting sport on. This is an unfortunate situation, but we are committed to doing what is best for her future and for the Lady Buffs team.''

Baseball News

The West Texas A&M softball team takes a break from Lone Star Conference play with a doubleheader against unbeaten Lubbock Christian starting at 2 p.m. today in Lubbock.

Football News
Intense work promised
According to Alfred Lord Tennyson, a young man's fancy lightly turns to thoughts of love during the spring. For more than 100 West Texas A&M football players Monday, their springtime fancies heavily turned to thoughts of hitting. The Buffs, coming off an 11-2 record - with both losses against Abilene Christian - in 2008, began spring practice with a physical purpose.

"We're going to do a lot of hitting. We have to find out whether they can do it or not," said WT head coach Don Carthel, who is 44-7 in four seasons with the Buffs. "Unfortunately, this is going to be the most physical spring that we've had, and probably our most important, because we have to develop so many young kids at so many different positions.

Other News
WT 'close' in search for volleyball coach
West Texas A&M is continuing its search for a new volleyball coach, and a decision may be made this week, athletic director Michael McBroom said.

"I can't really comment on the search other than to say we are close and hope to have some news sometime in the next four or five days," McBroom said. "I can say there are nine official applicants, and we are looking at all of them."

McBroom declined comment on whether Lady Buff assistant coach Sarah Butler Carthel, a former WT player, is on his short list.
