There are no butchers, bakers or candlestick makers among the 12 finalists for the cable television reality show that will find the Cowboys' 80th and last roster member when training camp opens July 31.
The dozen dreamers introduced Wednesday morning at the Cotton Bowl are hardcore football types whose most recent experience has been in college, in the Arena Football League or semi-pro football. There are six wide receivers and six defensive backs.
Two Dallas-area defensive backs are among the finalists – Erick Jackson, 24, who played at Duncanville High School and Texas, and Eddie Moten, 27, who played at Lancaster and Texas A&M-Kingsville.

Ready to move on
This isn't the way Emily Brister wanted to see her basketball career end.
But because of a severe knee injury a month ago, the most honored women's basketball player in West Texas A&M history has become her team's most ardent cheerleader from the bench.
A ruptured ACL ended a playing career that began at the age of 6 and produced enough great memories to last a lifetime.
''I've always been such a competitive person,'' said Brister as the Lady Buffs prepare to host Abilene Christian at 8 p.m. Friday in a quarterfinal game of the Division II South Central Region tournament at the First United Bank Center.
''I want to play so bad, but I know that I can't. After the injury (on Feb. 11 at Wichita Falls) I thought that I might be able to play again, but it's not to be.
''I've finally accepted it and will move on in life. It wasn't in God's plan for me, and that's all right.''

Knocking it out of the park
Two years ago, both the Angelo State University baseball and softball teams advanced to the NCAA Division II National Championship tournament.
Could the same thing happen this spring?
Both teams are certainly playing like they could be competing for national championships come late May. Both are nationally ranked - the baseball team is No. 12 in the country while the softball team remained No. 1 this week despite dropping a game to Tarleton State last Friday.

Local qualifiers seek national acclaim
Camille Vandendriessche likes to put the team first. That's why he's excited at the prospect of the Abilene Christian men's track and field team winning its first indoor national title since coach Don D. Hood took over the program four years ago.
"It means a lot to the team," he said. "Since Coach Hood has been here, ACU hasn't won indoor. He's won three outdoor meets, but no indoor meets, so far. So if we win, it would be the first time since 2005. That's a big deal."
WT women's golf team takes second
West Texas A&M's women's golf team finished second Tuesday at the Red River Intercollegiate that was hosted by East Central at The Winstar Golf Course in Thackerville, Okla.
WT shot 318 and 303 for 621, finishing 18 shots behind winner Tarleton State.

It was nice to see E Brister without the crutches at the LSC tournament. Hate to see her career end like this but the Lady Buff seem to have made the adjustments.
Always enjoyed watching her play but I am glad we will not have to play against her - oops ther is a freshman named Brister on the WT roster - are we going to have Brister chapter two.
