Abilene Christian tops D-II football poll
For the first time since the school made the switch from NAIA to NCAA Division II, Abilene Christian University is home to the top-ranked football team in the nation.

The Wildcats (7-0) made the jump from No. 2 to top spot in this week’s American Football Coaches Association poll, overtaking preseason No. 1 Grand Valley State, which was upset last week by unranked Hillsdale (Mich.) 27-24.

UIW receivers to return
Incarnate Word will get wide receivers Todd Walker and Mike Woods back for Saturday’s game against Texas Lutheran, coach Mike Santiago said.

First win eludes East Central team
East Central had its best offensive production of the season on Saturday, but it wasn’t enough to overcome four turnovers and an Incarnate Word offense which piled up 398 yards. Redshirt freshman quarterback Eric Massoni threw for 293 yards and three touchdowns as Incarnate Word downed the Tigers 38-20 in a non-conference football clash at Benson Stadium.

Massoni was 18-of-27 from the air as he fired scoring passes of 58 and 30 yards to Dominic Hamilton and hooked up once with Matt McLaren for 20 yards as the Cardinals, playing their first season of varsity football, evened their record at 3-3.
