LSC Women's Soccer Weekly Update

Midwestern Lady Mustangs continued their high-flying ways this week weighing in at #10 on the national poll. Future LSC member Incarnate Word is 19th and West Texas A&M received votes nationally.


LSC Player of the Week awards went to : Offensive – Lindsay McHorse of West Texas, Defensive – Megan Hanlon of Midwestern and GK Mallory Whitworth, her second such award of the year.


West Texas A&M – Evened their conference record to 1-1 with a 1-0 2OT victory over Central OK. Score was 0-0 at the end of regulation, before Lindsay McHorse (POW) again provided the winner. Sunday the Buffs dominated SWOSU 4-0, with three first half goals. Four different players scored for West Texas, putting them 2-1 in conference play.


This week the Buffs travel to Commerce for a Friday night game and visit Denton Sunday to test TWU.


A&M Commerce - Sunday the Lions fell 1-0 to #10 Midwestern in Wichita Falls. A 95th minute golden goal dropped Commerce to 1-1 in conference play.


This week the Lions host West Texas and Eastern New Mexico.


Central Oklahoma - Lost to West Texas in a 2OT 1-0 match as the Bronchos eight game win streak ended. Central returned to the win column in a 4-1 defeat of ENM Sunday. The match was tied 1-1 at half, with OCU scoring in the 21st minute before ENM answered in the 39th. Central manufactured a three goal barrage in the second half to control the game.


Central remains at home this weekend against Angelo St and ACU.


Midwestern - Defeated TWU 1-0 in a statistically close game. The Mustangs faced a tough Lion side on Sunday at home and emerged with a 1-0 OT win. The shot count was very even at 20-19.


This weekend Midwestern continues their four game home stand hosting Northeastern and ECO.


ACU - Friday the Riverhawks visted Abilene and scored in the 2nd minute via an unchallenged free kick. ACU scored the next two before Northeastern equalized in the 72nd. The game was marred by numerous fouls, some called – some not, including a controversial no-call when ACU’s Julie Coppedge was leveled inside the penalty area.


The Cats had a chance to ice the game on another foul inside the penalty area that resulted in keeper PJ Davis being carded, but were unable to convert the PK. The tie stood and both teams came away with a point. ACU returned to the win column Sunday with a 1-0 win over ECO to put their conference record at 2-0-1.


The week the Wildcat side tours Oklahoma, visiting SWOSU on Friday and Edmond for a match with Central Oklahoma on Sunday.


Angelo - Friday ECO and Angelo combined for nine goals, ending in a 5-4 OT win for ECO. The winning goal came just 12 seconds into OT. Sunday Northeastern took a 4-0 whipping in a game marked with 26 fouls and five cards. Angelo scored two in each half, and improved to 1-2 in conference play.


The Rambelles test Central Oklahoma and SWOSU this weekend in Oklahoma.


East Central Oklahoma - The Tigers surprised Angelo St with a 5-4 OT win, with Whitney Watts contributing a hat trick while the Tigers rallied from a 4-1 deficit.


A 12 second OT period ended with a golden goal. The Wildcats were less welcoming, handing the Tigers a 1-0 shutout. ECO was outshot 22-5 in the contest.


The Tigers will trek to Wichita Falls this weekend to face #10 Midwestern.


TWU - The Pioneers were turned away by the Mustangs 1-0 in their only contest of the week.

Eastern New Mexico and West Texas come to Denton for this week’s matches.


Eastern New Mexico - Hosted SWOSU and defeated the Bulldogs 1-0 in the first OT period. The Zia’s converted a corner in the 5th OT minute for the win. Had Central Oklahoma 1-1 at the half on Sunday, but three second half goals doomed ENM as they fell 4-1.


This weekend the Zia’s test TWU and Commerce on the road.


Northeastern - The Riverhawks trip to Texas brought them a tie vs ACU on Friday and a 4-0 loss to Angelo on Sunday. GK PJ Davis denied a PK in the second OT to preserve the tie. The match against Angelo was a foul and card fest, unfortunately for the Riverhawks the Rambelles converted four goals out of a 22-8 shot advantage.

This week Northeastern visited Wichita Falls to test Midwestern.


SWOSU - The Bulldogs gave up five goals in a pair of weekend losses, 0-1 against ENM and 0-4 against West Texas.


This weekend the Bulldogs try to turn the corner against ACU and Angelo State at home.
