Top Team Performance - West Texas A&M
The Buffaloes continue their late season surge, with a sound defeat of Angelo State. After the Rams tied the score at 7 late in the first quarter, WTAM reeled off 23 straight points to take control of the game. Taylor Harris threw for 414 yards and 2 TDs, and Keithon Flemming had 96 yards rushing and 2 more TDs to lead the WT offense. The defense held ASU to 327 yards and forced 3 turnovers.
Top Team Offensive Performance - Southeastern Oklahoma
The Savage Storm had 461 yards of offense, including 362 passing against Northeastern State. Juting Pitrucha had 6 TD passes, 2 each to Daniel Nichols, Baylen Laury, and Michael Goodlow. Nichols had 14 receptions for 185 yards, while Laury had 148 all purpose yards.
Top Team Defensive Performance - Tarleton State
The Texans held Abilene Christian to 255 yards and just two field goals in their big 13-6 win. The biggest series came after a TSU fumble that ACU recovered on the Texan 8 yard line. Tarleton kept ACU out of the end zone and the Wildcats had to settle for a field goal. Just two ACU second half possessions were for more than 3 plays, and the Texans had 7 sacks and 14 tackles for losses.
Top Offensive Performance - Fred Winborn, Texas A&M-Kingsville
Winborn broke Johnny Bailey's team record for single game rushing yards, as he ran for 263 yards and 3 TDs, including a 32 yarder with 5:16 remaining to put the Javelinas up by 13. Winborn now leads the LSC with 838 yards rushing.
Top Defensive Performance - Marcus Phillips, Tarleton State
Phillips led the Texan defense with 12 tackles, 2.5 for losses including 1.5 sacks. He also had an interception on the Texan goal line, returning it 15 yards and thrwarting an ACU scoring threat.
Top Special Teams Performance - Jerome Hewitt, Southeastern Oklahoma
Hewitt had 191 return yards on 5 punt and 2 kickoff returns. In the second quarter alone, Hewitt caught a punt on the SOSU 5 yard line and returned it to the NSU 22, and then took a kickoff 62 yards to the NSU 38 yard line. The Savage Storm took advantage of the great field position scoring TDs on both possessions.
