Offensive – Lindsay McHorse (WTA&M) earned her second POW award of 2009 for her part in the 3-1 win over Midwestern.

WWT A&M ranked #19 this week in the NSCAA poll defeated (then #22) Midwestern 3-1 on Sunday. Buffs scored in the 8th and 19th minutes for a 2-0 halftime advantage. Kelsey Hill put Midwestern on the board in the 58th. McHorse, this weeks offensive POW, added the insurance goal in the 86th. WT held an edge in shots 16-11, and ended the weekend with a 4-2 conference record.
This week the Buffs stay home and entertain Angelo and ACU.
A&M Commerce bested the Rambelles 2-1 in regulation. A PK in the 9th minute by Whitney Hancock provided the only scoring of the first half. Angelo equaled in the 70th, but Meagan Lasley scored the winner in the 84th for Commerce. The shot tally was 22-14 Commerce. A sluggish performance in Abilene on Sunday led to a 2-1 road loss. A scoreless first half was followed by two ACU goals wrapped around an empty net goal by Chelsey Haight. ACU outshot the Lions 17-4. Commerce stands at 3-3 in conference play. Next the Lions travel to ECU and NOSU
Central Oklahoma overwhelmed ECU 6-0 on Friday in their last road match. Five different players scored with Katy Kashwer netting two, and outshooting the Tigers 21-4.
Central is currently second in the conference with a 5-2 record. Next the Bronchos welcome Midwestern in for a home game.
Midwestern fell out of the top 25 spots but are still receiving votes in the national ranking after a 3-1 road loss in Canyon. Two goals against in the opening 20 minutes is a hard start to overcome. Midwestern’s conference record is 4-2.
This weekend SWOSU and Central Oklahoma await the Mustangs on a road swing.
ACU notched two home wins over the weekend. The first was a 1-0 defeat of TWU in a match largely dominated by ACU ( shot count was 22-6). A set piece provided the margin. Sunday the Cats controlled play against Commerce, who did not attempt a shot in the first half, and emerged with a 2-1 win. The lone Lion goal was the result of a keeper miscue. Alyson Thomas was named Defensive POW for her stellar play in the two wins. ACU improved to a conference leading 5-1-1, and hits the road this weekend for matches against ENM and WT A&M.
Angelo fell Friday to Commerce 2-1. The first half score of 1-0 resulted from a PK. Angelo equaled in the 71st, but the Lions found the winner in the 84th. Sunday TWU topped the Rambelles 1-0 via a 17th minute goal by TWU which stood. Angelo falls to 2-5 in conference standings.
This week the Angelo side is on the road for matches against WT and ENM.
ECU lost a pair over the weekend, with the first a 6-0 drubbing at the hands of Central Oklahoma, and Sunday SWOSU handed the Tigers a 2-1 defeat. Against SWOSU the Tigers scored first off a set piece in the 42nd. The Bulldogs equalized via a Korey Hearn header, win the winner coming just seconds before time expired. ECU stands at 2-4 in conference. This weekend travels to A&M Commerce and TWU.
TWU split for a win and a loss over the weekend. Friday the Wildcats of ACU won 1-0 with a 22-6 shot advantage. On Sunday the Pioneers returned to the win column with a 1-0 road win over Angelo. A 17th minute goal proved to be enough. Nori Morgan was named LSC GK of the week for her work. TWU returns home for their final two home matches against NOSU and ECU.
ENM lost to (then #22) Midwestern 1-0, after a first half draw. Midwestern scored in the 55th and blanked the Zia’s for the win, leaving the ENM side with a 2-4 conference record. Next up ACU and Angelo travel to Portales for matches.
NOSU split a pair of conference games, losing to SWOSU 1-0 on Friday. The Riverhawks played the final 17 minutes of the match a player down after a red card ejection. A non-conference match against winless Texas A&M International by a 5-0 margin returned NOSU to the win column. Currently NOSU is 1-4-1 in conference standings. This weekend the Riverhawks travel to Texas to try TWU and Commerce.
SWOSU won a pair of conference games against NOSU (1-0) and ECU (2-1). Korey Hearn scored her 7th goal of the year via a corner kick headed in. The Bulldogs were very efficient in the game with one goal from just four shots. On Sunday the Bulldogs notched their 3rd conference win. ECU scored first in the match for a 1-0 halftime lead. Korey Hearn scored again via a header off a corner for the tie, and the winner came just five ticks prior to the end of regulation. The Bulldogs boast a 3-4 conference record, their best result in a few years. Only one game for SWOSU this weekend, with Midwestern coming to town.
