LSC BASEBALL
The Lone Star Conference baseball season continues with a full slate of league games this week. Tarleton State leads the LSC with an 18-6 conference mark, while Southeastern Oklahoma, Southwestern Oklahoma, Cameron and Incarnate Word are not far behind as teams battle for one of six spots in the LSC Baseball Championship field.
LSC baseball teams are 243-217 overall this season. Combined the squads are currently 26-13 versus Heartland Conference teams and 5-3 against the Mid-American Intercollegiate Athletics Association, which are the other two conferences in the NCAA South Central Region.
QUICK HITS
• Cameron’s Chase Larsson tied a school record with eight RBIs in a single game and matched a school and LSC record with three home runs in one contest.
• Tarleton State extended their winning streak from seven to 11 games with victories against Henderson State and Northeastern State.

DIAMOND PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
HITTERS
Chase Larsson, Cameron University, JR, CF, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
Larsson tied a school record with eight RBIs in a single game and matched a school and conference record with three home runs in one contest over the weekend against East Central. The Vancouver native produced a massive average at the plate for the Aggies, going 8-of-10 (.800) with a whopping 2.100 slugging percentage. His 14 RBIs on the weekend put him in a tie with teammate Kenny Held for the nation’s top spot, and his three home runs put more distance between the competition for the nation’s best home run hitter. The Aggies swept the Tigers in the three-game series by run ruling them in each game.
Julian Duran, Texas A&M University - Kingsville, FR, 3B, San Antonio, Texas, Madison HS
Duran sparked the Javelinas to a 3-1 week including two wins over #24 Southwestern Oklahoma. He went 2-for-4 with a run scored in a 6-5 win over St. Edward’s. After grounding in his first at bat of the series against SWOSU, he hit safely in his next six at bats. He was 4-of-5 with three runs, three RBI’s and a stolen base in a 15-3 victory. In the second game, he was 2-for-3 with a double, triple, stolen base, run and RBI in a 6-2 win. In the series finale, he went 1-for-3 with two runs and a stolen base in a 10-8 loss. He hit .600 for the week with an .867 slugging percentage, seven runs scored, five RBI’s and three stolen bases.
PITCHERS
Ricky Cramer, Cameron University, SR, P, Stillwater, Okla., Redlands CC
Cramer (5-2) worked seven complete innings of no-hit baseball to lead the Aggies to an 11-0 victory over East Central on Friday. Cramer walked four and struck out five batters en route to throwing just the second no-hitter under Head Coach Todd Holland. His defense committed one error in the first frame but helped him to the tune of nine fly-outs and four ground-outs to get the no-no.
Heath Wyatt, Southeastern Oklahoma State University, SR, P, Searcy, Ark., Searcy HS
Wyatt turned in one of the best weekends of his career, chipping in on both Southeastern wins over West Texas A&M. Wyatt tossed 11.1 inning as over the weekend, earning a win and a save. He picked up a win in the series finale, tossing a career-high 9.2 innings and allowing two runs on six hits with 10 strikeouts. That was on the heels of a 1.2 inning performance where he earned his ninth save of the year and combined with Jimmy Johnson on a shut-out victory over the league’s top hitting team. His 9.2 innings is the longest outing for any pitcher in the conference this season.

LSC SOFTBALL
Lone Star Conference play continues as teams compete for one of eight spots in the championship bracket. The top four teams in both the North and South divisions advance to play in Durant, Okla., May 5-6-7.
With three weeks of league action remaining, MSU holds the top spot in the North Division standings at 8-1, with Southeastern Oklahoma and Cameron behind them. ASU has taken the lead in the South at 10-2, with Incarnate Word second and West Texas A&M and Abilene Christian tied for third.
LSC softball teams are 347-248-2 overall, with a 180-146-1 record in the South and 167-102-1 in the North this season. The squads are currently 82-35 combined versus Heartland Conference squads and 38-35 against the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association, which are the other two conferences in the NCAA South Central Region.
FIRST PITCH
Midwestern State’s Megan Chartier matched a Lone Star Conference single game record and set a school standard by going for 5-for-5 in the Mustangs 7-2 win (April 8).
The Mustangs improved to 38-4 on the season and remains off to its best start in program history through 42 games and two games better than last season’s 36-6 mark.
MSU was ranked No. 2, Angelo State No. 10, and West Texas A&M No. 23 in last week’s NFCA Division II Top 25 (April 6).
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
NORTH HITTER
Megan Chartier, Midwestern State University, SO, Outfield, Gatesville, Texas, Gatesville HS
Chartier matched a LSC single game record and set a school standard by going for 5-for-5 in No. 2-ranked Midwestern State’s 7-2 win Friday at Southwestern Oklahoma. The sophomore from Gatesville legged out two more hits in each of the Mustangs’ victories on Saturday to close the weekend series with a .750 batting average going 9-for-12 at the dish scoring three runs and stealing two bases. Chartier stands second in the LSC North during divisional play amongst players with 2.5 plate appearances per game with a .591 batting average.
CO-NORTH PITCHER
Kristina Gutierrez, Midwestern State University, SR, Pitcher, Pearland, Texas, Dobie HS
Gutierrez notched her NCAA Division II leading 10th shutout of the season while leading No. 2 Midwestern State to a 7-0 win over Southwestern Oklahoma Saturday afternoon in Weatherford. The senior from Pearland improved to 15-1 by weaving a three-hitter with 12 strikeouts. Gutierrez has now held the opposition to three hits or less in 10 of her 19 starts this season. She is 3-0 with a 0.35 ERA while allowing one run on 10 hits in 20 innings during LSC North Division play with 33 strikeouts and one walk.
Audra Rhudy, Southeastern Oklahoma State University, JR, P, Ector, Texas, Ector HS
Rhudy led the charge for Southeastern en route to a series victory over rival East Central in a key LSC North Division series. Rhudy posted a 2-0 record with a 0.55 ERA in two starts, earning a shutout victory in the series opener. She came back on day two in the rubber match and tossed 6.2 innings to earn her 14th win of the season. She allowed just one run on the weekend on 12 hits, with only two of those going for extra bases. She held opponents to a .250 batting average and struck out four. She also chipped in at the plate, driving in a team high four RBI and hitting .400 on the weekend with a double and a home run.
CO-SOUTH HITTER
Tiffany Weise, Texas Woman’s University, JR, C, Village Mills, Texas, Warren HS
Weise helped the team to 2-1 record in a key three-game series against Abilene Christian. She drove in the eventual game-winning runs in both TWU victories. Weise led the team with five RBI and .900 slugging percentage. She also posted .700 batting average and .667 on base percentage. On the season she is the team leader with .412 batting average, tied for second in runs (25) and third in RBI (27).
Melanie Padilla, University of the Incarnate Word, SO, SS, San Antonio, Texas, Marshall HS
In a 3-0 sweep of Tarleton State to move UIW to second in the South Division, it was not how many hits Padilla had but what kind and when. In game one with the Cardinals down 1-0 in the bottom of the seventh she hit a one-out home run to tie the game which UIW won 2-1. In game two, with the Cardinals down 2-1 in the bottom of the sixth she hit a one-out, two-run home run which was the eventual game-winner. This one hit the top of the center field wall and took a UIW bounce to go out. All-in-all she hit .571 in the series with a .600 on-base percentage and a 1.429 slugging percentage.
CO-SOUTH PITCHER
Briana Sanchez, University of the Incarnate Word, SO, RHP, San Antonio, Texas, Marshall HS
Sanchez had an arm in all three games last week as Incarnate Word swept Tarleton State. The Cardinals broke a third-place tie with the TexAnns and moved into second in the South Division, as she won twice with complete games and saved the other with one-inning of three up and three down with two strikeouts. She worked a total of 15 innings allowing just one unearned run, while striking out a total of 22 and walking only three. After pitching in both games on Friday with eight K’s in the win and two in the save, she came back on Saturday with 12 strikeouts and had a no-hitter through 6.1 innings before allowing two hits in the seventh. After the two hits and a base on balls to load the bases she struck out the final two batters.
Shelbey Cockrell, West Texas A&M University, JR, Pitcher, Pearland, Texas, Pearland HS
Cockrell went 1-0 this past weekend as the #23 Lady Buffs swept the Texas A&M-Kingsville on the road. She finished with a 0.75 ERA with 20 strikeouts in 9.1 innings pitched with an opponent batting average of .121 with one save. She came in to game three and shutdown the Javelinas, striking out four of the six batters she faced in the final 1.2 innings to pick up the save as WT completed the sweep. In her lone start of the weekend, she struck out 14 batters while giving up two runs on four hits in the complete game win.
