Lone Star Conference fans have hoped this would happen for years, and it appears it may become a reality in 2011.
KETR.org in Commerce is reporting that the Lone Star Conference has put together a proposal to have an LSC Festival at Cowboys Stadium on September 17, 2011. The proposal was discussed by Texas A&M-Commerce President Dan Jones in a recent community update.
"Right now it sounds like a wonderful opportunity and it's something which helps establish and raise awareness of what we do in the Metroplex, which is still our primary market," said Jones.
The Festival will include 3 games, with at least 5 (possibly 6) LSC teams. Earlier rumors had possible matchups with Gulf South Conference teams, but that does not appear to be happening now. At this point, the only confirmed LSC team is Texas A&M-Commerce. Dr. Jones stated that the LSC Festival would replace the Harvey Martin Classic, which A&M-Commerce played at the Cotton Bowl the last 3 years.
Each team will only be responsible for their own travel expenses, and any revenues generated from the festival would be split equally between the LSC schools participating. A grant by the Lone Star Conference is covering most of the initial costs, according to Jones.
According to KETR, the LSC will present more details about the event at the next Council of Presidents meeting, at which time a final vote will take place on the festival.
