LAWTON, Okla. - It was all about history for Chris Hagan Monday night at Aggie Gym.
But the senior guard from Houston believed it was just about one thing - the win.
"I really wanted to be aggressive and get into a rhythm, but it's all about getting the win," he said. "That's what matters."
Midwestern State got that in a 91-82 Lone Star Conference crossover win over Cameron for its seventh straight win to improve to 7-1 on the season.
Then there was Hagan's game for the ages as he poured in a school record 50 points as hit 17-of-26 from the field including eight 3-pointers and was 8-of-10 from the free throw line.
"To Chris' credit tonight, he took great shots," MSU coach Grant McCasland said. "He let it come to him. He got his floaters going and then the 3-pointers."
The coach was quick to credit Hagan's toughness and willingness to prepare.
"Championships are won in the summer and that couldn't more true about him," McCasland said. "It's no mistake that he scored 50 tonight. You can't keep Chris in front but when he's making 3s, he's impossible."
The performance bettered MSU's 48-year-old single game scoring record orginally set by Roger Ellis, who poured in 46 points against McMurry on Feb. 27, 1962, then matched by Earl Beechum's 46-point effort in the NAIA national tournament on March 8, 1966 against Monmouth in Kansas City, Kan.
Hagan poured in 21 first-half points to stake the Mustangs to a 42-30 halftime lead as the Mustangs used a 13-2 to close the half after the MSU bench was assessed a technical foul at the 4:22 mark.
The 6-2 guard wasn't done torching the nets as he connected on his first four treys coming out of the locker room and narrowly missed another as his toe was ruled on the line from the left wing at the 15:32 mark.
The Mustangs would lead by as many as 19 when Hagan hit one of two free throws at the 10:41 mark.
The Aggies used a 12-2 run to cut the lead to 80-74 on a pair of Vinicius Telo charity tosses with 2:52 to play, but that's as close it would get.
Cameron owned a commanding edge at the free-throw line as the Aggies connected on 28-of-35 tosses while MSU managed 19 trips to the line and hit 16 shots.
Deuce Nichols added 10 points and led the Mustangs with four assists.
Milton Garner paced Cameron with 21 points, while Desmond Henry had 15 points and seven rebounds.
Midwestern State plays host to NAIA Northwestern Oklahoma State Thursday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.

MSU's Clemons honored as 1st-team All-America selection - Times Record News
Midwestern State’s Kendra Clemons became the first player in women’s soccer program to earn first-team All-America status Monday morning when the National Soccer Coaches Association of America announced its annual postseason honors.
The senior midfielder from Odessa keyed the Mustangs’ run to the program’s first Lone Star Conference regular season title since 1998.
Clemons becomes MSU women’s soccer’s first NSCAA All-America selection and the only first-team All American of any kind in program history.
Her impact ranged much deeper than her scoring output of one goal and three assists. From the withdrawn position, Clemons played a vital role in aiding a back line limit the opposition to a 0.75 goals against average.
The four-year starter earned first-team NSCAA and Daktronics honors after gaining first-team All-LSC honors for the second time during her collegiate career.
Clemons earned NSCAA all-region honors in 2008 and 2009 and was an all-league pick in each of her four years at MSU and was the LSC Freshman of the Year in 2007.
Spence earns NSCAA third-team honors
Midwestern State’s Ryan Spence earned third-team All-America honors as the National Soccer Coaches Association of America released its annual postseason honors Monday afternoon.
The 6-3, 185-pound junior from Decatur played a key role in leading the Mustangs to their second unbeaten regular season in school history as the team advanced to the NCAA Division II Final Four for the second time in the last four seasons.
As the primary starter at center back, Spence keyed one of the nation’s best back lines. The Mustangs ranked second in NCAA Division II with a 0.58 goals against average while posting a 12 clean sheets.
Spence also accounted for two goals and two assists in 2010. He was named a first-team Daktronics All-American and was the Lone Star Conference Defender of the Year.
Spence also garnered Daktronics second-team All-America mention and was a first-team All-LSC selection as a sophomore in 2009.
MSU soccer coaches are named region's best - Times Record News
Midwestern State’s Jeff Trimble and Doug Elder were named South Central Region Coaches of the Year Monday afternoon when the National Soccer Coaches Association of America announced its annual postseason awards.
Trimble, who just completed his 13th season, guided the women’s team to its first trip to the NCAA Division II postseason and first Lone Star Conference title since 1998.
He has compiled an 84-38-8 (. 677) during his 10-year tenure at Midwestern and has coached four All Americans.
Elder, coach of the men’s team, earned regional coach of the year honors for the fifth time in his career, including in four of the last five seasons.
Since returning to his alma mater before the 2000 season, he has led MSU to seven conference titles and to the NCAA Division II postseason in seven of the last nine seasons including Final Four appearances in 2007 and 2010.
Elder is NCAA Division II’s active leader in winning percentage has he has posted a 171-37-18 mark in 11 seasons at the helm at Midwestern good for a .796 winning percentage.
It’s the first year the both region coaches came from the same institution since the NSCAA began awarding the honor in 2002.
