KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Dec. 7) – Central Oklahoma fell seven spots in the NABC/Division II Coaches' Poll Tuesday after the Bronchos suffered their first loss of the season last week.
UCO dropped a 75-73 decision at Incarnate Word last Saturday before bouncing back two days later to beat Texas A&M-Kingsville 79-66 and tumbled from No. 8 to 15th in the newest rankings. The Bronchos, now 8-1 on the year, return to action Saturday when they host Angelo State at 4 p.m.
Bellarmine (Ky.) took over the top spot in the poll after defending national champion Cal Poly Pomona lost two games and tumbled to 16th. Findlay (Ohio) is second in the poll, followed by Winona State (Minn.) and West Liberty (W.Va.).
Tarleton State is the only other Lone Star Conference team in the rankings, coming in at No. 13.
Mustangs receiving votes in NABC Division - MSU Sports Information
WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Midwestern State remains on the outside looking into the latest National Association of Basketball Coaches' Association Division II Coaches' Poll released Tuesday afternoon.
The Mustangs, who improved to 5-1 by extended their current winning streak to five games with a pair of Lone Star Conference crossover victories last week, are still receiving votes.
MSU is one of seven teams from the rugged South Central Region to receive mention in the poll including No. 6 Fort Hays State (Kan.), No. 13 Tarleton State (Texas) and No. 15 Central Oklahoma while Incarnate Word (Texas), Central Missouri and Missouri Southern are receiving votes.
Bellarmine (Ky.) who claimed roads win over No. 21 Southern Indiana and No. 23 Northern Kentucky last week claimed the No. 1 position after defending NCAA Division II national champion Cal Poly Pomona who suffered losses on consecutive days to Cal State-Dominguez Hills and Cal State-Los Angeles.
Midwestern State, which is 36-4 since Grant McCasland took the reins prior to last season, returns to action Saturday afternoon at Southwestern Oklahoma State. Tipoff at Rankin Williams Fieldhouse is set for 4 p.m. or 25 minutes after the conclusion of the women's contest which begins at 2.

The West Texas A&M Lady Buff basketball team dropped 11 spots to No. 23 in this week's USA Today/ESPN Division II Coaches Poll, according to a release from the Women's Basketball Coaches of America (WBCA) league office on Tuesday.
The Lady Buffs went 1-1 this past week after opening the home schedule with a 70-61 win over Cameron, but then fell 78-70 to Southwestern Oklahoma on Saturday.
Despite the move down in the poll, the Lady Buffs remain ranked in the top-25 poll for an 83rd-consecutive week.
No movements were made with last week’s top-four teams staying exactly as they were, with Delta State holding down the No. 1 spot this week and Lander, Fort Lewis and Washburn all following from No. 2 through No. 4, respectfully. Arkansas Tech moved up from No. 6 to the fifth spot this week to round out the top-five.
The Lady Buffs return to action this Thursday with a road game against Texas Woman's. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. inside Kitty Magee Arena in Denton, Texas.
SWO Men Bury Tarleton, Improve to 7-3 - SWO Sports Information
WEATHERFORD, Okla. – The Southwestern Oklahoma State University men defended their home turf Tuesday night with a convincing 76-63 beat down of visiting Tarleton State to improve their overall record to 7-3 on the year.
The Bulldogs will next play Saturday at home against nationally-ranked and two-time defending Lone Star Conference champion Midwestern State. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m.
SWOSU led nearly wire-to-wire against the Texans and showed little mercy on the nation’s 17th ranked Division II men’s basketball team. Tarleton dropped to 6-2 with the loss.

Of note: The Rams host St. Mary’s today still looking for their first win of the season. ... ASU is coming off a 102-98 overtime loss to Texas A&M-Commerce last Thursday. The Rams were led by LaMarshall Corbett, who had 29 points. Ridge McKeither added 27. McKeither led the team in rebounds with 11. It was his second double-double of the season. ... SMU is coming off a 66-62 loss to Incarnate Word last Monday. ... ASU is 9-19 all-time against SMU. The Rattlers won last year’s meeting between the two teams 84-79 in San Antonio. ... Rhodes back with Colts - Times Record News
Former Midwestern State running back Dominic Rhodes signed Tuesday for the third time with the Indianapolis Colts, the team he helped lead to the Super Bowl title after the 2006 season.
Fresh off a stint with the United Football League’s Florida Tuskers, Rhodes became the sixth UFL star to join the active roster of a NFL club this year.
Rhodes dominated in the UFL this past season, setting single-season marks for total touchdowns (10), rushing yards (547) and all-purpose yards (918). He was third in the UFL in yards from scrimmage (652) and second in kickoff-return average (21.7).
Cardinals QB Hall to IR - Pro Football Weekly
The Cardinals have placed rookie QB Max Hall on injured reserve and signed QB Richard Bartel.
Bartel, who is expected to be the team's third-string QB behind Derek Anderson and John Skelton, was on the Redskins' roster in 2008 and '09 but never threw a pass. The 27 year-old QB played his college ball at Tarleton State.

FLORENCE, Ala. -- The voting has concluded for the NCAA Division II College Football Player of the Year Award, and while the results of that voting won't be announced until Dec. 17, three players have received invitations to attend the 25th Annual Harlon Hill Trophy Presentation Banquet for the naming of the top player in Division II.
Senior quarterback Zach Amedro of West Liberty (W.V.) University, senior quarterback Blake Bolles of Northwest Missouri State University and senior quarterback Eric Czerniewski of the University of Central Missouri and have emerged as the top three vote-getters from a field of nine finalists in voting by the sports information directors at the 149 schools that compete in Division II football.

Athletics News: Student-Athletes Make Toy Drive Success - SWO Sports InformationWEATHERFORD, Okla. – A number of Southwestern Oklahoma State University student-athletes, along with members of Residence Life, participated in a toy drive campaign designed to provide holiday gifts for Weatherford area children through the community’s Caring and Sharing Program.
Several dozen toys, along with a small amount of money, were brought to an on-campus point where they were collected by Jason Ewing, the director of the Caring and Sharing Program and partner in the Weatherford Ministry Alliance. The toys will be then made available through various distribution methods to children and families in the community who are in need.
“I think this demonstrates just how much of a community-wide program this is,” Ewing said. “The SWOSU students showed a tremendous amount of generosity with their outpouring of support. I think it shows something a little extra special that they are willing to give when college kids are typically under tight financial strains themselves.”
Ewing said the items collected will go to more than 200 families in the Weatherford area identified by the Alliance as in need. Money raised will also go to fund a food basket project that will also help the families during the upcoming holiday season.
SWOSU athletic director Todd Thurman, who was among those who participated in the event, has been instrumental in getting Bulldog athletes to participate in community service projects throughout the year, not just at the holidays.
“SWOSU and its student-athletes have made a commitment to community service," Thurman said. "The partnership with the Caring and Sharing program is just one of many activities that we are involved in. We intend to continue to reach out locally and look for new opportunities and projects that will benefit Weatherford.”
