TVCC's Johnson honored
Sophomore running back named first-team All-American - The Athens Review
Now Trinity Valley Community College sophomore running back Josh Johnson has something else to go with his scarred helmet and tattered jersey.
On Thursday, Johnson was named a first-team All-American running back by the National Junior College Athletic Association.
Johnson and Blinn’s Philander Moore were the only two Texas junior college football players to be named to the first-team offense.
In his sophomore season, Johnson (6-0, 195 pounds) led the Southwest Junior College Football Conference with 1,048 rushing yards, and he also rushed for 15 touchdowns.
JUNIOR COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Appeal fails for TVCC’s Johnson
Running back no longer enrolled at the school - Jayson Larson, The Athens Review
Trinity Valley’s Josh Johnson was the Southwest Junior College Football Conference’s rushing champion and Most Valuable Player. He was named a prestigious first-team All-America running back this week.
Now his future is uncertain.
The Trinity Valley Community College Board of Trustees met in November and ruled Johnson received due process when he was dismissed from school in October for what was termed “academic issues.” He missed one football game before being re-instated pending an appeal.
Johnson, a sophomore from Richardson Berkner, played in three more games and finished the season on the field with the Cardinals in the conference championship game against eventual national champion Navarro.
According to TVCC, the board of trustees’ sole responsibility in hearing Johnson’s appeal was to determine if he received due process. After making that determination in the affirmative, his original dismissal was put back into effect.
