Lawson reaches sweet sixteen at the OGA State Amateur - CU
LAWTON, Okla. -- Trey Lawson came into the Oklahoma Golf Association State Amateur Championship as an underdog ranked 55 out of the 64 golfers competing in the tournament.  He is now in the sweet sixteen after a pair of upsets today at the Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa.

In the first round Lawson defeated the 10th ranked golfer, Chris Karlovich from Broken Arrow up six holes with five holes to go.  Later in the afternoon Lawson defeated the 40th ranked player Michael Hughett up three holes with one hole left in the second round.

Lawson will now continue tomorrow against the tournament's 7th ranked golfer, Hunter Sparks from Oklahoma City at 8:35 a.m.

"I'm really excited for Trey, he has worked really hard and came here as a walk-on and he just keeps working and getting better and better," said head coach Jerry Hrnciar. "This is the top 64 players based on qualifying in the state and he has gone from the top 64 down 16, so it is going to be a feather in his cap because there are some top college players and amateurs who know that course."

"He has done really well for himself, Cameron, and the golf program."

Lawson will be a senior this season and helped the Aggies win the 2012 Lone Star Conference Championship and also qualified for the NCAA Division II National Championship finishing the tournament in 39th place.

To follow Lawson throughout the tournament you can go to the OGA State Amateur Website.
