Football Roundup 11-19

WT takes momentum to ACU

Rematch. Has a nice ring to it.

For the second time in three years, West Texas A&M and Abilene
Christian collide in the NCAA Division II playoffs. In 2006, the Buffs and
Wildcats played a classic at Kimbrough Memorial, with WT scoring late in
regulation to tie the game, then winning 30-27 in overtime on Jon Roberts' field
goal.

ABILENE -- Abilene Christian University offensive coordinator Ken Collums has been named a finalist for the FootballScoop.com D2 Coordinator of the Year.

Finalists have been chosen for the 14 awards from the following areas: Offensive Coordinator, Defensive Coordinator, Special Teams Coordinator, Strength &Conditioning Coach, Quarterbacks Coach, Running Backs Coach, Wide Receivers Coach, Offensive Line Coach, Defensive Line Coach, Linebackers Coach, SecondaryCoach, Division 1-AA Coordinator, Division II Coordinator and Division III Coordinator of the Year.

Collums is one of four Division II coordinators up for the award, joining Minnesota-Duluth defensive coordinator John Steger, Pittsburg State offensive coordinator Tim Beck and Chadron State defensive coordinator Todd Auer on the list.

Collums has directed the nation's top offensive unit each of the last two years, helping the Wildcats to a 20-3 record in that time frame. In their last 23 games, the Wildcats have scored 1,138 points (49.5 points per game) and racked up 12,522 yards of total offense (544.4 yards per game). ACU ranks first nationally in scoring offense and total offense, second in fewest sacks allowed (0.5 per game), seventh in passing offense (322.0 ypg) and 16th in rushing offense (221.3 ypg).

Last year's ACU offense set an NCAA all-divisions record by becoming the first unit to boast a 3,500-yard passer (Billy Malone), 2,000-yard running back (Bernard Scott) and two 1,000-yard receivers (Johnny Knox and Jerale Badon) on the same team.
