Non-Football Stories

Mustangs move on with 2OT win
Midwestern State’s men soccer team had the bitter taste of defeat in their
mouths for five days.

On Thursday night, the No. 3 Mustangs used unranked Incarnate Word as
mouthwash, beating them 2-1 in a thrilling, double-overtime win in the first
round of the 2008 NCAA Division II men’s soccer championship.

Closer to Home 11.14.08
Abilene Christian University baseball coach Britt Bonneau announced
Thursday that the Wildcats have added three junior college transfers for the
2010 season.

Pitchers David Carpenter and Zach Sneed -- both of whom will play this
season for Paris Junior College -- both agreed to transfer to ACU, as did Howard
College pitcher Will Calhoun. All three will be sophomores at their respective
junior colleges in 2009.

TWU knocks out Mustangs, 3-1
CANYON, Texas — Midwestern State committed 31 errors Thursday night and fell to Texas Woman’s University 25-14, 21-25, 25-22, 25-16 in the opening round of the Lone Star Conference Championships at West Texas A&M Fieldhouse.

Lady Buffs make quick work of UCO
"We talk all the time about how volleyball is a game of matchups, and when you
look across the net and see something that's in your favor, you have to take
care of the ball and milk that for as many points as you can," WT coach Tony
Graystone said. "This team understands that concept and they're very good at
it."

Lady Buffs to face Washburn
"I am expecting a hard game between two good teams," Lauffer said. "It is
going to be a tough game for us. When you get to this point of the season, all
teams are good.

"We think there are going to be a lot of individuals duels around the
field. I think both teams will defend well, and I don't see either one getting
blown out."

Season ends for ASU volleyball team
The Angelo State University volleyball team saw its season come to an end in the
first round of the Lone Star Conference championship tournament, falling to
Abilene Christian 3-0 Thursday afternoon in Canyon. It was ASU's first
postseason appearance since 2004.

Montalvo to suit up vs. old team
Adan Montalvo would like nothing better than to beat his old team -- not
for revenge, but just because they are next on Texas A&M-Kingsville's
schedule.

Montalvo, the leading returning scorer for the Javelinas, returns to the
American Bank Center at 7, tonight to face off against Texas A&M-Corpus
Christi, which Montalvo played for two seasons ago when the Islanders went to
the NCAA Tournament. It's an interesting subplot in the proximity rivalry, which
strangely is an exhibition game for A&M-Kingsville, but the regular-season
opener for A&M-Corpus Christi.
