LSC Roundup 3-17

Competition gets no easier for MSU - J. Scott Russell
The Midwestern State Mustangs had a tough path to the South Central Regional championship and they will have another tough road ahead of them as they make their second straight trip to the Elite Eight next week.

The Mustangs (25-8) picked up their second straight regional title Tuesday night with a 73-66 win over No. 4 Central Oklahoma.

They beat the No. 3 seed, the No. 2 seed and the No. 1 seed to head back to the MassMutual Center in Springfield, Mass., once again.

The Mustangs were the sixth seed in their region. Now, they're in an Elite Eight field that has four No. 1 seeds and three No. 7 seeds.

Changes make ASU baseball a winner - Nathan Wright, San Angelo Standard Times
The Angelo State baseball team hasn't been on a roll like this in three years.

With Tuesday's doubleheader sweep of Henderson State, the Rams now have won nine games in row, their longest winning streak since they won nine straight during the 2008 season.

During that streak, the Rams have swept Lone Star Conference foes Southeastern Oklahoma and Abilene Christian. ASU has not lost since Feb. 26 against East Central and has won 12 of its last 13.

Just a few weeks ago, the Rams were sitting at 4-6 and wondering what they needed to do to get back on track. Three series into LSC play, they were 3-6 and had been swept by Incarnate Word and lost two of three to Texas A&M-Kingsville.

A shuffle of the lineup and a minor reorganization of the pitching staff seem to have fixed things. Or at least turned them in the right direction.

"When you look at our lineup, it is very different from what it was the first 10 games of the season," ASU head coach Kevin Brooks said. "It took a while to get the right guys in the right positions."
