LSC Roundup 3-21

Bellarmine doesn't have Witt or giants - Nick Gholson, Times Record News
Bellarmine coach Scott Davenport said his basketball team is "not going to scare anybody getting off the bus."

The same could have been said about Taylor Witt a year ago. The 6-foot-3-inch guard from St. Cloud State University looked like a choir boy. But when Witt stepped on the court at the MassMutual Center, he turned into Superman, hanging 43 points on MSU in a 92-88 opening-round win that sent the Mustangs home from the Elite Eight much sooner than they wanted. Well, Witt, who averaged 20.1 points a game his senior year, and St. Cloud, which finished 15-14, won't be in Springfield, Mass., this week.

"We don't have anybody who can score 43 points in a game," Davenport promised.

Bellarmine's highest point production this season was 31 points by 6-foot-2-inch sophomore guard Chris Dowe. That happened in one of only two losses for the Knights this year and their only home loss of the season.

"We are not a real athletic team, but we are a balanced team," Davenport said. "Our strength is that we play well together."
