The Lone Star Conference baseball season continues with a full slate of league series this week. Southeastern Oklahoma leads the conference with a 13-5 record, while Southwestern Oklahoma, Tarleton State and Incarnate Word are each tied for second place at 15-6.
LSC baseball teams are 193-172 overall this season. Combined the squads are currently 17-13 versus Heartland Conference teams and 5-3 against the Mid-American Intercollegiate Athletics Association, which are the other two conferences in the NCAA South Central Region.

Chase Larsson, Cameron University, JR, CF, Vancouver, British Columbia
Larsson set an NCAA Division II record this week for the most consecutive games with a home run as well as being one of two powerful offensive threats at the plate for the Aggies. Larsson has now homered in nine consecutive games, besting Central Missouri’s Ben Slemmer 1998 record of seven. Over that span, Larsson has also tied teammate Kenny Held for the most home runs in the country with 16. On the weekend, Larsson was 5-of-10 at the plate and all but one hit was a home run. His only ball that stayed in the park was a stand up two bagger. He added 7 runs and 10 RBIs for the Aggies while striking out just once and stealing one base.
Zane Hensley, Tarleton State University, SR, 1B, Florence, Texas, Florence HS
Hensley led the Texans to a series sweep of Angelo State last week with his .583 average and six RBI’s, as Tarleton improves to 20-7 on the season. Hensley started off the series on Friday with a 3-for-5 performance, recording a pair of RBI’s, a pair of doubles and three runs scored. He answered the following day with a 2-for-3 showing and two more RBI’s in the first game and a 2-for-4 outing, two RBI’s, and a home run in the second game. The first baseman for the Texans also collected 28 putouts without giving up a single error all week.
PITCHERS
Heath Wyatt, Southeastern Oklahoma State University, SR, P, Searcy, Ark., Searcy HS
Heath Wyatt picked up a pair of saves in helping Southeastern secure a sweep of conference-rival Central Oklahoma over the weekend. He moved into the saves lead in the conference by picking up his seventh and eighth of the year, tossing a total of 5.1 scoreless innings and allowing just three hits, while striking out 10 of the 16 outs he earned. UCO hit just .167 against him as he posted a walks and hits per innings pitched (WHIP) of less 1.000 and averaged nearly two strikeouts per inning.
Ryan Salt, Tarleton State University, SR, SP, Colorado Springs, Colo., Air Academy HS
Salt had his best performance of the season Saturday in an 11-1 win over Angelo State. Salt tossed all seven innings, allowing just a single run on two hits while striking out four. Holding the Rams to a .095 average, the senior righty gave the Texans one of their three wins over ASU this past weekend, helping Tarleton to improve their Lone Star Conference record to 15-6 on the year.
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Ryan Pruitt, Eastern New Mexico University, made two relief appearances against East Central and limited the Tigers to just one hit over 2.2 innings with two strikeouts and no walks.
Aaron Oliver, Abilene Christian University, helped ACU to a three-game sweep of Northeastern State in Lone Star Conference action last weekend. ... Oliver collected 7 hits in 11 at-bats and was on base a total of 11 times in 15 plate appearances. ... Hitting out of the No. 3 spot in the lineup instead of the leadoff position, Oliver drove in a team-best seven runs and scored a team-high six runs in the sweep of the RiverHawks.
Hector Flores, University of the Incarnate Word, batted in six runs on his five hits this weekend against Cameron University, with two of those hits going to the wall for doubles. The San Antonio native also played error-free in the field as the Cardinals took 2-of-3 against one of the best teams in the nation at hitting balls over the outfield fence.
Justin Miller, Southeastern Oklahoma State University, helped supply the offense and some defense en route to Southeastern’s three-game sweep of conference rival Central Oklahoma. Miller led the team with four hits and five runs. He batted .400 on the weekend and posted a .538 on-base percentage. He also chipped in an RBI hitting out of the leadoff spot. He posted a team-best four steals over the series and moved into the top-5 in the league in steals. He also flashed the leather in center field going a perfect 9-for-9 on fly-balls including a trio of diving grabs in the series opener.
Ryan Cook, Texas A&M University - Kingsville, was outstanding all week long. He blitzed LSC rival West Texas A&M over the weekend in leading the Javs to a 2-1 series win. In the opening game, he went 3-for-5 with three RBI’s, a double and his first career homer in a 10-7 win. In the team’s 10-2 loss he managed to go 2-for-4 with a stolen base while scoring both of the team’s runs. In the series finale, he drove in three more runs with another three-hit performance in a 17-7 win. He scored four runs, drove in six, stole a base and had a .929 slugging percentage for the week.
Luis Quiñones, Eastern New Mexico University, turned in a strong series at East Central, hitting safely in all three games, with multiple-hits over the last two. In each of the final two games, he batted two-for-three with two RBIs.
Justin Gibson, East Central University, batted .615 (8-for-13) with one double, four runs batted in and three runs scored as ECU took two of three home games from Eastern New Mexico. His best performance came in the series opener, a 13-2 win, as he went a team-best 4-for-5 with the double, three RBIs and a run scored. He was also 2-for-4 with one RBI and a pair of scored runs in a 9-7 win and was 2-for-4 in the series finale, a 17-7 loss. Gibson had a .600 on-base percentage and .692 slugging percentage while stealing a perfect three bases in three attempts.
