EWEY, Okla. – When the Lone Star Conference basketball teams ascend on Bartlesville, Okla. each March, most people expect them to be thinking one thing: round ball.
However, the Tarleton Texans, and other men’s teams from the LSC tournament, spent part of Wednesday at local schools talking to the students about life and school while spending some time teaching the elements of the game that elevated the teams this far.
“To be able to do this and watch our kids interact with these students is great for our program,” said Tarleton Associate Head Coach Chris Reisman. “Our guys enjoy doing this every year.”
Head coach Lonn Reisman talked to the kids about keeping their bodies clean and focusing on school.
“Stay away from drugs,” Reisman said. “Stay away from alcohol and tobacco, and keep your bodies clean and strong. Also, listen to the people that love you because they are looking out for your best interest. Respect them.”
Junior guard Warren Webb told the kids that sportsmanship and respect of others was key as the fourth and fifth graders grew up.
“You have to be a human being and respect others,” the Houston native said. “We have to help others, not just throughout the course of basketball, but in cheerleading, dance or whatever you want to do. You have to be dedicated to what you are doing and be focused on what you have to do.”
Junior Wes Dipprey then talked to the students about school.
“You have to go to class, but you can’t just be there – you have to be attentive,” the forward from Shallowater said. “The classroom will take you wherever you want to go in life. Respect your teachers and learn. You don’t have to be the smartest, just try your hardest.”
After Chris Reisman answered a series of questions from the students, Donta Smith and Nick Mosley dunked a couple of basketballs on request.
All of the Texans and the coaching staff then demonstrated fundamentals of the game to the students and grabbed several students from the crowd to teach. The team showed the B
ulldoggers how to chest pass, bounce pass and shoot the ball correctly.
“These guys consider it a privilege to do what they do every day,” Chris Reisman told the students about the Texans. “They have worked hard in school from the fourth and fifth grade to graduate high school and then advance to college. Now they get to play the sport they love, and if you work hard, you will get to do what you want in life, too.”

Lady Buffs Move Up to #6 in Newest NFCA Top 25 Poll - WT Sports
CANYON, Texas – The West Texas A&M Lady Buffs moved up one spot to #6 in this week’s National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Top 25 poll releases on Wednesday morning.
WT is 13-1 overall after going 6-0 this past week, sweeping New Mexico Highlands on the road and taking all four games of the WTAMU Triangular this past weekend against Texas A&M-International and Central Oklahoma.
The 13-1 record is the best start to a season in program history and the Lady Buffs are currently on a nine game win-streak and are undefeated at Lady Buff Yard.
WT is set to host the Lady Buff Invite this weekend as Washburn and Eastern New Mexico travel to the Texas Panhandle for the Friday and Saturday triangular format tournament. First pitch for the tournament is set for 11:00 a.m. on Friday morning with the Lady Buffs facing off with Washburn.
MSU Softball: Mustangs fall one spot to No. 13 in NFCA D2 Top 25 - MSU Sports
WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Midwestern State is off to its best start in school, coming out of a NCAA Division II South Central Region title last and has won its last eight games.
That all equals a drop in the National Fast-pitch Coaches' Association Top 25 Poll as the Mustangs fell from 12th to 13th in the latest release of the rankings Wednesday morning.
The Mustangs (17-1) have reeled off eight-straight wins since falling to Texas A&M-Kingsville earlier this month. MSU won nine-straight from the start of the season and have posted an impressive 65-7 regular season mark since the beginning of the 2010 campaign.
MSU, which has advanced to six of seven NCAA postseasons since the rebirth of the program in 2004, is one of six South Central Region programs receiving mention in the poll.
Angelo State (17-0) surged ahead of Valdosta State to claim the top spot in the poll after extending its best start in school history with a doubleheader sweep of St. Edward's last weekend.
West Texas A&M (13-1) moved up a spot to No. 6 after beating up on unranked Texas A&M International and Central Oklahoma in a triangular last weekend in Canyon to run its winning streak to 10 games.
Nebraska-Omaha (9-1) was idle last week and fell a spot to No. 9, while Missouri Western and Fort Hays State are receiving votes.
Midwestern State plays host to the Holiday Inn at the Falls/MSU Invitational this weekend at Mustangs Park and Burkburnett High School Field from Friday to Sunday.
The field includes Abilene Christian, Incarnate Word, Arkansas Tech, Fort Hays State and St. Edward's.
The Mustangs open tournament play against Abilene Christian Friday afternoon at Mustangs Park. First pitch is set for 3 p.m
