Seniors Tyler Sheppard and Cyril Bouniol both had solid rounds Tuesday to help the Abilene Christian University Wildcats move up three spots to third after two rounds at the NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championship.
"The two seniors stepped up and played well when we needed it," ACU coach Mike Campbell said.
Sheppard, who shot a 74 on Tuesday, fired a 1-under-par 71 on the Robert Trent Jones at the Shoals' Fighting Joe Course to move up eight spots and into a tie with three others for eighth — just four strokes off the lead. Bouniol, the defending national champion, is just a shot back of Sheppard after shooting a 72. He shares 12th with three other players, including teammate Trey Sullivan. A day after shooting the second-best score of the day at 70, Sullivan, the Lone Star Conference freshman of the year, shot a 76 on Tuesday.
Alex Carpenter, the LSC player of the year, shot a 75 to move into a tie with three others for 54th with a 155, while Kyle Dickerson rounds out the ACU team at 103rd out of 108 golfers (84-83—167).
UCO Sixth In National Meet - UCO Golf
FLORENCE, Ala. (May 17) – No. 1-ranked Central Oklahoma used a back-nine rally to overcome a rough start and stay in the mix of things on the second day of the NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championships here Tuesday.
The Bronchos started on No. 10 and were 13-over-par after their first nine holes while making three triple bogeys and three double bogeys before going just two-over on the final nine in finishing with a 304. That has UCO sixth in the 20-team field with a 599 total after two trips around the tough par-72 Robert Trent Jones at the Shoals Fighting Joe Course.
The top-eight teams after Wednesday's final round advance to the match play portion of the tournament that will determine the national champion, with four first-round matches and two semifinal matches set for Thursday before the championship finals on Friday.

Cameron Climbs Two Spots Into A Tie For 17th After The Second Round Of The NCAA Championships - CU Golf
No. 21 Cameron is sitting in a tie for 17th place after round two of the NCAA DII Men's Golf Championships, jumping up two spots and improving on their day one score by eight strokes.
The Aggies shot a combined score of 309 (+21) and were again led by senior Jason Timmis, who finished with a two-over 74.
Cameron sought redemption on the par 5 No. 17, after yesterday's play saw scores of 5, 5, 6, 7 and 10 on the hole, and found it. As a team, the Aggies shot one-under on the hole and posted scores of 5, 6, 4, 4, 5.
Timmis' combined score of five-over (149) has him currently tied for 25th place, only eight strokes off the lead.
Kregg Wood continued his strong play, shoting a 76 (+4) and moving him into a tie for 54th place with an 11-over (155)
Other Aggies scores include: Trey Lawson (T-85/159), Brady Porter (T94/164) and Austin Weaver (T-100/166).
No. 1 ranked Lynn University remains in first place after shooting an identical three-over. No. 2 Ricardo Gouveia fell off his early pace, shooting a one-over 73 and dropping into a tie for second place at two-under (142). Three players are currently tied for the lead at three-under (141).
Cameron will return to the course Wednesday morning for round three. The Aggies are scheduled to tee off at 8:20 a.m. It will be their last chance to climb into the top eight.
Only the top eight will advance into match play, which will decide the national champion for the first time in tournament history

Larsson voted NCBWA South Central Player of the Year, joined on All-Region teams by three fellow Aggies - CU Baseball
Lawton, Okla – Cameron Aggies junior outfielder Chase Larsson was named the NCBWA South Central Region’s Player of the Year, while also picking up first team honors on the South Central All-Region Team, in a news release from the National collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).
Larsson is joined on the first team by fellow outfielder, senior Kenny Held, and junior second baseman Josh Dawson. Senior pitcher Ricky Cramer was named to the second team.
Larsson had one of the most dominant seasons in the history of college baseball, leading the nation in home runs (29), RBI (84), slugging percentage (1.000), total bases (190), and runs scored (74) in his first season in Division II. He also set a new NCAA D2 record for the most consecutive games with a homer (9), tops among all NCAA divisions.
Kenny Held combined with Larsson for one of the most potent offensive duos in D2 this season. Held is among the top five hitters nationally in home runs (20), RBI (75), runs per game , triples (9), slugging percentage (.941), total bases (176), and on base percentage (.535). Held’s nine triples are a school record for the most in a season.
An All-LSC 1st Team selection for his performance at second base this season, Josh Dawson continued that play into the LSC Tournament, helping to lead the Aggies to the championship game, and earning All-Tournament team honors.
As a leadoff man, Dawson started all 49 games this season at second base and was third on the team in batting average(.393), on base percentage (.485) and runs scored (60) behind Larsson and Held.
Senior RHP Ricky Cramer was an All-LSC First Team performer after he led the conference in ERA with a sparkling 2.30 mark heading into the 2011 LSC Tournament.
He opened up the tournament with a complete game performance to stifle No. 21 Tarleton State, 4-1, and returned two days later to pitch a 6-4 gem into the ninth against SE Oklahoma in the championship game.
Kirk Jewasko of Incarnate Word nabbed Pitcher of the Year, while St. Mary’s head coach was awarded Coach of the Year.

Tough Schedule Awaits UCO In 2011
EDMOND (May 17) – A daunting schedule that includes four consecutive road games to start the season will confront Central Oklahoma in 2011, with the Bronchos set to play a full 11-game slate this fall.
UCO, which will compete as an NCAA Division II independent this year before moving into the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association in 2012, will play six of its first seven games on the road before finishing with four straight home contests.
The Bronchos will face one Football Championship Subdivision (formerly I-AA) team, eight Division II squads and two Division II provisional teams. The 11 opponents had a combined 64-58 record last year, with seven of the teams finishing .500 or better.
“It's definitely a difficult schedule and every team will face is a quality opponent,” UCO coach Tracy Holland said. “We're going to work hard to get ourselves prepared to play our best every week and we're looking forward to challenge.”
The Bronchos will open the 2011 campaign on Thursday, Sept 1 at three-time Division II national champion North Alabama, which went 9-4 last season in advancing to the second round of the playoffs.
UCO goes against a trio of former Lone Star Conference rivals the next three weeks, traveling to Southeastern Oklahoma on Sept. 10, Angelo State on Sept. 17 and Southwestern Oklahoma on Sept. 24.
The Bronchos make their Wantland Stadium debut on Oct. 1 against East Central with a 2 p.m. Homecoming contest before going on the road the next two weeks to play FCS member Cal Poly and future MIAA rival Washburn.
It will be UCO's first game against an FCS team since 2000, when the Bronchos lost a 38-31 overtime contest at Stephen F. Austin. Cal Poly finished 7-4 last year, while Washburn went 8-4 and won the Kanza Bowl.
UCO then finishes the season with four consecutive home games, starting with an Oct. 22 date against future MIAA foe Fort Hays State. The Bronchos will meet Black Hills State on Thursday, Oct. 27 before hosting Northeastern State (Nov. 5) and Lindenwood (Nov. 12) in the final two games.
UCO is coming off a 2-9 season.

Duckworth To Lead RiverHawks
Northeastern State University has named Tony Duckworth as its Director of Athletics. Duckworth, who will begin his duties on June 13, will be formally introduced at a press conference May 31, 2011, in the Webb Center Tower at 1 p.m.
"I am delighted that Tony Duckworth will be joining the NSU family as our leader of intercollegiate athletics," said Dr. Don Betz, NSU President. "Tony's experience, attitude, energy and passion for encouraging student athletic and academic success are a solid fit with Northeastern's vision and values. Tony will be a valued addition to the NSU leadership team."
Since 2007, Duckworth has served as the Director of Athletics at Maryville (Mo.) University in St. Louis and was a valuable resource in helping the institution transition from NCAA Division III to NCAA Division II, while gaining membership in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Also a former associate athletic director and head basketball coach at Huntingdon (Ala.) College, Duckworth says he is prepared to lead RiverHawks Athletics as the sixth AD in school history.
"I am humbled and honored to have been selected as the Director of Athletics at NSU," said Duckworth. "My family and I are excited about becoming a part of the RiverHawks family.
"I certainly want to thank Dr. Betz, Tim Foutch and the search committee for the level of professionalism shown during the entire process. I am looking forward to working with the university and the athletic staff during the upcoming academic year, especially as we prepare and implement strategies for membership in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) in 2012."
Duckworth brings a wealth of experience on NCAA committees and has been involved in intercollegiate athletics for more than 18 years.

ANDERSON ANNOUNCES FIVE ADDITIONS TO 2011-12 A&M-COMMERCE ROSTER - TAMC Women's Basketball
COMMERCE, Texas – Texas A&M University-Commerce head women's basketball coach Nicole Anderson today announced the signing of five players to the Lions' 2011-12 roster. Breanna Harris, La'Tisha Hearn and Devin Oliver are local standouts that have committed to the Lions while Ashlee Johnson and Michelle Sutton will make the trip east after outstanding prep careers in California.
"This recruiting class brings depth, athleticism, quickness, rebounding and toughness to the post position and improves our ability to score from the guard position," said Anderson. "These young ladies having come from winning programs who have been successful locally and nationally. I am excited to see them compete in our conference and challenge our opponents."
Anderson addressed some specific needs in the offseason, bringing in three guards and two forwards as the Lions will have to replace All-Lone Star Conference honoree Mattilyn McIntyre as well as senior guard Anisha Ingram. To do so, she brought in some heavy hitters, including the leading scorer in Texas 5A girls basketball in 2010-11, the starting point guard on the seventh-ranked team in the nation, two state champions and five players with impressive high school credentials.
The newcomers should provide instant depth to a young Lion team that returns five of its six leading scorers and rebounders from 2010-11, including sophomore Danielle Dixon, who averaged 11.7 points and 3.5 rebounds last year and fellow sophomore Bianca Stevenson, who posted 9.5 points and 6.0 boards per game for A&M-Commerce.
