RICHARDSON, Texas – Three Lone Star Conference softball teams were selected for the 2011 NCAA Division II South Central Regional. Midwestern State, West Texas A&M and Angelo State each claimed a spot in the eight-team regional field which will be played at two four-team sites.
MSU, the LSC North Division champions, will host one of four-team, double-elimination regional’s May 13-15, while West Texas A&M, the LSC Champions, will host the other. Rounding out the field is Nebraska-Omaha, Emporia State and Missouri Western from the Mid America Intercollegiate Athletics Association and St. Mary’s and Texas A&M International from the Heartland Conference. Joining the top-seed Mustangs in Wichita Falls, Texas, are No. 4 ASU, No. 5 ESU and No. 8 TAMUI, while No. 3 UNO, No. 6 MWSU and No. 7 STMU join No. 2 WTAMU in Canyon, Texas.
The winners of the two four-team, double elimination tournaments will meet at the site of the highest remaining seed for a three-game Super Regional to be held May 20-21. The winner of the Super Regional advances to the NCAA Division II Championships to be held May 26-30 at James I. Moyer Sports Complex in Salem, Va., hosted by the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and the City of Salem.
